no big kangaroo?

 

Looks great and fairly priced...having CDs and 7 inch singles seems an odd mix though, especially as the album isn't being released on vinyl here.

I still think, after The Beatles, they had the best singles in the 60s. Love Plastic Man!

 

Look forward to reading the reviews. Love the album but am not a fan of these sets.

My first hot takes: The book and CD4 are obviously the big selling points here for fans. Really hope the book is substantial and has new info rather than being just eulogies for the album. The involvement of Julian Mitchell and the sleeve designer looks promising. CD4 is all the new content: looks like the only actual contemporary material is likely to be the demos medley, but the other stuff is intriguingly unknown (the 1998 recordings of Arthur out takes!) and re-inforces the theme of the VGPS box of these works being ongoing projects that Ray has returned to in private many times.

Big disappointment is including the many times re-issued ‘lost’ Dave Davies album as a whole disc. This stuff was already comprehensively issued on the Hidden Treasures set so its a shame to see it taking up so much real estate here. All good stuff of course and in a way it’s nice to have it all in one place but it does seem like filler in the context of what is already at large.

No LP vinyl this time must be a budget issue but I’m not that bothered: I recall there were some complaints at the time here about the cost increasing multi format nature of the VGPS box. It means the price of this box is a bit more manageable. The 7 inches in picture sleeves included do look very cute.

Cool but for myself I’m glad I got the mono LP box when I got the chance.

 

What's the price in the UK?

 

£70.

 

As far as I see it makes the current deluxe edition obsolete except for the Shangri-La backing track.

 

The remixes I’m interested in, and obviously I need that home demoes medley... but there’s a lot I’ve got here. I’m really hoping for a 12” version of Daves album as a companion release. Quite happy to not have the box include LPs, and the singles themselves are all pretty rare.

 

I'm tempted - but will wait to see what happens on price given I got the Village Green box for £80 and this looks a bit 'skinny' for only £10 less.

Plus I already have Arthur a couple of times - once in the Mono vinyl box and the Mono / Stereo set that came out for RSD a few years ago.
