Now spinning, Monster From the Ocean Floor, 1954, B&W, a wonderfully cheap 50's flick.

    Bulworth
Beatty delivered with this political satire. Hard to believe he's only acted in 31 films.

Just saw Chef - Jon Favreau's little indie flick about a chef who loses his job to then find himself and reconnect with his family.
Well done - but everything is just a bit too sugarcoated. B

About to head to Big Bend for our annual trip. Watched There Will Be Blood over the weekend and three burials of melquiades Estrada tonight. Three Burials was excellent, hadn't seen it before

Watched 127 Hours tonight. I'd seen it once before. I found the final minutes after he freed himself to be very moving.

One complaint about this movie and movies in general (full disclosure, I'm not in the HD, blue ray, digital TV game). It bothers me that no thought seems to go into the background colors when they put writing on the screen; not the credits but "Aron went on to have a son" kind of stuff.

If I put the DVD's captioning on it's clear as could be to read. But they put things like the example above and it's made much harder to read because of similar colors.

Just saw the new Godzilla Haaaaaaaated it. I'm going to cleanse my palate with something much better, like 1945's The Frozen Ghost.

Two cool documentaries from the library:

BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD - Interviews George Romero and some critics and cultural historians about NIGHT
OF THE LIVING DEAD's impact on film and society, and how it was influenced by the times in which it was made.

BEWARE OF MR. BAKER - Interesting and at times sad, Ginger Baker recounts his life from an easy chair in South
Africa. Plenty of interviews with his former bandmates and family, and lots of great music and clips.

I tend to go into phases, after quite a while suddenly last night my Star Trek phase started again, not sure how long it will last, but last time I ended up ultimately watching all of the movies on blu ray.

I started last night with the one I used to hate, IV The Voyage Home.
Somewhere along it suddenly resonated with me and became one of my favs, still not sure why, but I love it.

    Tonight, it's First Contact.

I hold this one dear to me, as silly as it is there are a few lines that spoke life back into me a long time ago at a time I badly needed to hear something. Thanks Picard! The lines start about 1:19.

in Tarrytown, NY today, where the two DS films were shot. Can't wait!

HER - I really liked it, a cynical take on romance, our dependance on technology and the never ending quest to find somebody that we can connect with honestly. I loved Scarlett's performance .

Breaking Bad dude is in it playing a cop. Typecast or what. :)

  25. Godzilla, Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The last was exceptionally good the former, OK, the middle one mediocre.

Enjoyed Her....ok that might get me in trouble.

Lego Movie-better than half the films Hollywood produces. Quite entertaining.
