The Timothy Dalton Bond films are still my favorite behind the new Daniel Craig trilogy. I like all of them (even Moonraker ) but some a lot more than others.

On Thursday, "The Human Scale," a documentary about the theories and practices of architect Jan Gehl, whose ideas focus on remaking urban space so that it is oriented toward pedestrians and social interaction rather than the car. Very interesting and persuasive film.

Last night, "Je t'aime, Je t'aime," Alan Resnais's 1968 gesture at science fiction, about a man selected for time travel who ends up caught in a series of memories about a failed relationship.

Metropolis. Still one of the most visually arresting films ever made. I wonder, has anyone ever sat down and done a shot-for-shot comparison between the final chase in this and the one in the British Museum in Hitchcock's Blackmail? I'm working from memory but they seem remarkably similar. (I'm sure it was probably intentional on Hitchcock's part since I know he was very influenced by the German films of the '20s.)

Meh. I'm not a Woody Allen fan (a few of his films are okay) but Mrs DC likes a lot of them but missed this one. She didn't think much of it either.

COLD IN JULY - Good noiry revenge film set in 1989 in Texas. Went in only knowing about the setup of the film and
was on edge through all of the dark twists. Nice turns by Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepherd, and Don Johnson, in a much
more rewarding role than he was given in MACHETE.

Playwright Gaylord Esterbrook scores a hit with his first Broadway play, both with the critics and with leading lady Linda Paige. He and Linda are happily married until a patroness of the arts convinces Esterbrook to forget about comedy and concentrate on writing a tragedy. The end result nearly destroys his career and his marriage.

    I enjoyed this one.

Overall, I enjoyed it. While I wouldn't say I loved it I was definitely engaged the entire movie. In terms of the main character it was much darker than I expected.
I would like to revisit it again at some point as I'm sure there's some detail I didn't catch.
