I was very happy with this. Very well executed, even better than the Oscar nominations led me to hope. Probably my favorite movie released in the past couple years.

'Wild River' (1960) on the big screen. Looking sensational in CinemaScope, very interesting movie.

Jersey Boys . . . I didn't particularly care for the film, but it did remind me just how much I enjoy the music of Frankie and TFS.

Howard Hawks' "Only Angels Have Wings", sort of a tropical noir with Cary Grant and Jean Arthur. One of the most atmospheric movies I've ever seen, the fog shrouding the airfield outpost in Baranca (where 95% of the movie takes place) seemingly drifting off screen. Good story too.

The 70s movie Slither was on TCM last night. It had its moments.

Pure S. (1974) "The Most Evil Movie I Have Ever Seen". Scoring smack in inner city Melbourne in the mid 70s. Really fast paced. Played for laughs. The feature runs 77 minutes the bonus features 250 minutes.

I like Tom Cruise - he's pretty good in most everything he does. We'd wanted to see this one but never got to the theater when it was playing so waited for the Netflix disc. Certainly not his best film but not awful either....if I'd paid $12 or so at the theater I'd probably have been disappointed but for a Netflix Saturday night with some popcorn and a glass of wine it was decent entertainment.

'Get On Up' (2014) Not flawless but a very good biopic
