The Harvest episode of the 'Endeavour' series. This is a repeat(2017) but is IMO the best of the series (thus far) and reaches the heights of great Morse episodes such as The Dead Of Jericho and The Last Enemy. The site below seems to suggest 'Paint It Black' as appearing in the episode, but I didn't hear it. Music from Endeavour S4E04
After The Great Gatsby episode and the stunt casting of Terry , from Time Gentlemen Please as Friday's brother the show got weirder and weirder. The episode that quoted all the British movies from the 60s and 70s was almost a bridge too far.
Perhaps it has gotten weirder as time goes. Thursday's brother who sinks all his investments in some crazy scheme? That's one of the latest, and I failed to catch the Gatsby one or the British movie episodes. I did like the allusions to Hardy and Housman in 'Harvest'.
Looking it up it seems the episode with the movie references is Harvest. There's references to O Lucky Man. Billy Liar, The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, The Wicker Man and lots more I've forgotten.
We're with you on the twisted Pat Phelan story line. We were quite happy when that character got killed off (supposedly). An episode or two later he emerged from the waters and found refuge in some remote cabin to lick his wounds. Haven't heard about him since. I fear we haven't heard the last of Pat Phelan.
Thanx for the info. I only got 'Loneliness...' and the 'Wicker Man'; and the first was directly referred to by the woman.
When Morse says 'I could lose myself in London' it's not only a quote from Billy Liar but also a sample used in Saint Etienne's So Tough album.
The Rookie, Homecoming (Netflix), House of Cards (just didn't do it for me like it used to. In this case, one card too many was pulled out and it collapsed)
That line just fit right into that conversation seamlessly-gotta hand it to the writer(s). Tonight, it's Season 8(dvd) of Doc Martin, borrowed from the lib'ary my sister works at.
Danton's Death. BBC 1978 production on YouTube. Some liberties taken, I assume, from the Bluchner play. Ian Richardson a chilling Robespierre.
Sally4Ever, on HBO. A very British story about a frustrated woman who has a sexual awakening with another woman, after being in a bland relationship for years with a man. Bizarre, graphic, hilarious and disturbing all at the same time, I don't think I can watch another episode.
I started watching the show Black-ish about four days ago. I'm on season 2 and I am enjoying it so much. Glad when I get into a show that I don't think I'll really like but I give a chance anyway and it's good.
It had me laughing out loud within the first 5 seconds, and I'm still laughing about the onanism scene, thanks for mentioning it Splungy!
Her boyfriend has to be the most odious character on TV right now. Cringeworthy does not do him justice.
Yeah, it's like they took Buster from Arrested Development, multiplied his neuroses by 1000 and plied him with Viagra .
