As I watched the show last night, I was very distracted by thoughts of all the bizarre complaints about the show in this thread. Jon Batiste playing the melodica? OMG how could he?!?!?! And the drummer was wearing a cowboy hat! Oh, the humanity!

Actually, there's only one problem with the Late Show and the band. Maddie Rice needs to be seen and heard more. Much more.

I hope they don't fine the show for the Trump comments, would put a bad smell as if they are just picking on him because Trump was the target...
I miss Jon Stewart... and if you haven't seen it, "Last Week Tonight" is one of the best things on TV !!

I look at Colbert's show and I think, The Daily Show is probably what he should be doing and what he'd rather be doing.

All of the "obscenity" claims are just hot air and nothing will come of it. It opens a huge 1st amendment can of worms and Colbert would rip them to shreds(watch his 2010 congressional interview).

Keep in mind that people in Hollywood have all the Apprentice outtakes with Trump saying some really stuff, even by his standards. All that is needed is the $5 mil contractual fine if ever leaked.

Fake outrage is hilarious! ...this was bleeped and his mouth was blurred. It was also past the family friendly time slot.

    And, remember....
There was a call to cancel "The Colbert Report" once...
I won't repeat what he said, but, he fought it, and I think he won.

If the sponsors stay, you stay. No win or lose. He is nowhere near that line imo. Fake outrage = slight of hand trick.

The video says that I can't play it here. How come that is?

Because they want you to watch it on Vimeo.
You read the first three lines. Why not read the fourth?

I miss the daily show. ...Gorillaz did sound great, this week, to get back on topic. Lots of post production editing but I still like it.

When I first saw the entire monologue on YouTube, I had no idea what had been said/bleeped. All I could gather was it was referring to Trump and Putin.

It was only later when certain folks were upset that I read what the original joke had been.

So, fake outrage is a good way to describe it. The joke – as broadcast (and on Colbert's YouTube channel) – is unintelligible. The only was to know exactly what he had said is to go digging around online.

I agree. With respect to the FCC fine, no obscenity was aired as the comment was bleeped. This is no different than a licensed radio station playing a censored version of a song. The real threat here would be (as others have mentioned) if sponsors pulled their ad dollars from the show or if CBS felt that they would suffer other damages as a result of keeping Colbert on the air.

I miss Johnny Carson. Up until the day he died no one knew his political leanings, one way or the other. What an entertainer!

the real irony of this "fake outrage" is that Colbert did pretty much the exact same joke months ago. it was during warmup before the show, but cbs posted it to TLS's facebook page. it was out there.

Is the joke about a "holster"? If so, he's used that on air before.
