The Kinks. Although Ray was great at poignant ballads I do think he could have passed a few more rockers over to brother Dave who had a stronger voice.

Ray Thomas was possibly the best vocalist in The Moody Blues but Justin wrote far more songs leaving little for Ray to do in later years.

Family. John Wetton over Roger Chapman any day.

Grateful Dead. Just about everybody in the band had a better voice than Jerry or Bob!

I can hear that but I never thought there was one lead singer for the Eagles. Frey and Henley got more songs as things went on, so they may have considered themselves co-lead singers.

Current Whitesnake fits the bill. Coverdale's voice is shot, and keyboardist Michele Luppi is an amazing singer.

He's not better ... because it's frickin' Freddie Mercury ... but, Queen drummer Roger Taylor could have fronted a band vocally.

Randy Meisner not only had incredible range and was a great harmony singer - he could blend in at times and add a distinctive edge at others, depending on what the song called for- but he could also sing different styles of music like rock, country, bluegrass, pop. He wasn’t limited to just singing ballads.

Was he a better singer than Henley? That’s hard to say but out of everyone else in the Eagles, Meisner comes the closest to besting him.

Think he tried that but didn’t really succeed like everything he’s done without Fred.

I'm truly surprised how heated (though maybe I shouldn't be) over such a simple and goofy topic.

I love Gram Parsons, but Hillman was imo a better singer speaking solely in technical terms (think who judges would like better on a show like American Idol) but that doesn't mean I'd rather Hillman sing all Parsons led FBB songs, just means TECHNICALLY SPEAKING he is a better singer.

Like we all know Dylan is a great singer in the context of his own genre and his songs but he obviously wouldn't win on a dumb show like American Idol, but someone with technical proficiency and no soul or heart might

Tod Howarth is a better singer than Ace Frehley, and Ace let him demonstrate that a little in Frehley's Comet.

HE did an equal amount of singing though. America members nearly always sang their own songs, and during the heyday were all contributing equally.

In fact their first four hits (Horse/I Need You/Ventura/Don't Cross the River) include at least one by each.

    Stan had a GREAT voice.

I think there’s a trend here- harmony singers are often as good as (if not better) singers than lead singers, but the lead singer often has a distinctive edge that perhaps makes them stand out more.

It's passable in a bar band sort of way, but it's bland and doesn't have the character required to put that song over.
