“The Lion King” (2019)*

    It's a fine film. Now there are two versions of the story and people can watch the one they like best.

    Finally saw this with the kids. Tecnically, it is STUNNING - but I was surprised (and disappointed) that it so slavishly copied the original film. I mean, that entire opening sequence/ song is literally shot-for-shot (even down to the focus pull between the ants and the zebras).

    I thought the voice acting suffered in comparison as well (the new Scar is okayyy, I suppose - but he ain't no Jeremy Irons).

    I sat there a lot of the time thinking - didn't they learn anything from the remake of Psycho?

    Like the previous poster, I kept waiting for the story to be a little bit different, but no it’s carbon copy. But yes, I did enjoy it, it is a technical marvel, and it has some nice humour. Jeremy Irons nailed Scar in the original though. Glad I’ve seen it once, the original still carries the day, and in my view remains the classic version.
