Never thought I would like a solo double bass album, but this one has so many moods, I keep returning to it: Larry Grenadier "The Gleaners"
Hmmm... I'm having trouble should I get Marcin Wasilewski Faithful first or the live album from the trio? Any experts to those who own the discography?
In all seriousness now, I’m listening to this one as I type this: Nils Petter Molvaer Khmer ECM 1560 Trumpets, guitars, percussion and electronics; it really is amazing.
My vote would be for Faithful, because it's probably the ECM album I've listened to most. An astounding record. Then again you wouldn't go wrong with either.
I started with January but if you're new to them I'd probably get Faithful first. But really all of their ECM albums (Trio, January, Faithful, Spark Of Life, Live) are exceptional.....you're going to need them all eventually ;-)
My man Claude! ECM fans have the best taste in music period, not just esoteric space filled classically tinged jazz recorded with intense care by both musicians and producers alike.
Most rocking-est ECM release, possibly, is this one? Not complaining at all, but the jamming on this release seems quite un-ECM-ish.
This is an ECM classic. Great. Can you describe what is ECM-ish? I have about 140 ECM titles on vinyl that I've been collecting since the late 70s. I would be quite challenged to define that myself. Music in the catalog is all over the place.
I only own about 50-60 titles. Perhaps the best way for me to describe the ECM sound is to describe what it is not: hard rockin’, funky, electric-bluesy. At least in my experience.
Stanley Cowell Trio, Illusion Suite (side two) and Chick Corea Return To Forever sound electric-bluesey to me. The former is a gem of the catalog. The latter is a classic. Also, "Back Woods Song" on Abercromie/Holland/DeJohnette Gateway. Anyway, style is all over the place in the ECM catalog.
I absolutely love it. Actually, it;s my favourite Abercrombie album, it's got this, well, night mood that suits me well.
No more ECM "fakes" please. In this thread, it constitutes trolling. Make a thread about it if that is what you want to do. This is for titles to which you have actually listened.
wait, you’re saying that I can only post about ECM titles that I have already listened to? Are you sure about that? If you are, are you prepared to delete hundreds of posts from this thread? Because there are plenty of people commenting on stuff they haven’t listened to yet. Lots of em.
He almost certainly means actual ECM titles, whether you have heard them or not. I think that's a reasonable assumption. I agree the fakes had no business existing in this thread: that just creates confusion for no good reason.
I don't have to delete anything. Thread participants just need to stay on topic going forward. Also, at the risk of being too obvious, if you are commenting or asking questions about someone else's post about something to which they have listened, there is nothing wrong with that even if you have not heard it.
