This is a video by The Gaming Historian (who makes really great videos about the history of video games) covering The Super Mario Bros. movie (1993).

It's basically a primer in how many, many things can go wrong when making a movie and how they can make the end result unsatisfying to pretty much anyone who might have otherwise enjoyed your movie:

I'm still baffled by Shigeru Miyamoto's comments on the movie:

Miyamoto remembers the troubled Mario Bros. movie

There's a Super Mario Bros. anime (which was only released in Japan) that's actually a lot more faithful to the Super Mario Bros. game

Here's The Nostalgia Critic's review of it:

I remember taking my son to that movie when it came out. It was excessively dark and ugly, unlike the game which, aside from a few of the boss levels, is mostly bright and cheerful. It was a very cynical adaptation of a relatively upbeat video game.

I saw that video a long while ago. That channel is always informative. Even to those who aren't interested in videogames, there are some interesting videos such as the Tetris story or the lawsuits discussed in the channel.
