The writers channeling Whit Stillman (Metropolitan, Barcelona, Last Days of Disco) when Abe has dinner with his Village Voice pal, played by frequent Whit Stillman collaborator Chris Eigen. May not be for everybody but I loved loved loved it.
Episode 8 They could have dumped the first 20 minutes. Since the show is winding down they should focus on the comedian making the big time. Instead of all these little subplots. Great steelers wheel song during credits
Tony Shalhoub on his moving 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' speech Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Tony Shalhoub Breaks Down Moment for Abe, Midge – The Hollywood Reporter Tony Shalhoub On Abe's Emmy-Worthy 'Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Season 5, Episode 8 Scene
Still catching up on Season 5. Watched episode 4 last night and was excited to see a Bathtubs Over Broadway related theme.
Yes, any Maisel fan who has not yet seen Metropolitan, must. It's practically a prerequisite sequel to what is going on with this show.
Why is the season/show going to be over so quickly? They should be going 12 to 15 episodes with this.
Wow, Bros uses a different voice altogether playing Midge. Most actresses/actors just read the lines using their normal voice, unless a drastic accent is called for.
Well, now we know Midge hit the big time (though it sure took a while for them to get around to giving her a star...!): https://twitter.com/MaiselTV/status/1660825932469534720 That's one more of those than I've got...! The final ep airs on Thursday evening! - Kevin
Really disappointed and let down by the finale. They had a great opportunity to have one bit of drama... Spoiler Midge's father Abe was known to have heart problems, so he could have died just as the show ended, foreshadowing that Mrs. Maisel was going to get all the showbiz success she earned, but the price she would have to pay was a difficult, empty personal life. I also think it was much too long. A 76-minute episode? What? And that 4-minute segment she had at the end felt like 10 to me. Very contrived and loose. I like all the characters, but I just think they could have done much more with the setup. BTW, the photography was once again top-notch, and the shots of the 1960s cars jammed around midtown Manhattan were incredible. I can't imagine how much that cost to shoot, and where the real street ended and the VFX started -- seamless work. The final credits also had momentary shots from throughout the long visual history of Mrs. Maisel, and it's a reminder of how beautiful the sets, art direction, lighting and color were throughout the series, much of it because of DP David Mullen. The actors had a ball. Here's some spoiler comments from the stars... Rachel Brosnahan on 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' Series Finale - Variety
It wasn't an excellent finale, but it was very, very good! The series is definitely on my list to "binge watch" again in the future.
My boy Vidiot starts with how let down he was but spends more time praising than condemning!! Relax, I'm kidding, although you being an "insider" might taint yr opinions for us 'regular' folk!
I didn't want to reveal the specifics that I hated. I thought it was a very predictable, "by rote" ending that could have taken a lot more chances. But there were some elements I thought were brave, particularly "older" Mrs. Maisel" walking through a lavish (but empty) house in 2005, not too far removed from how Joan Rivers lived in the last 10 years of her life. I was just telling a friend of mine how much I enjoyed Mrs. Maisel doing her big "4-minute" standup routine and the camera slowly circling around her as the lights dimmed down, which was a very strange, ethereal, edgy moment. Very well-done -- they took some chances with that, where I think it almost bordered as a fantasy sequence. But overall... nope. I think it was weak as an ending. And they should have killed off... Spoiler her father Abe to give the show more emotional backbone.
