That's good to know! The APO SACDs were the first music from NKC in my collection.

Good luck finding WDEG on SACD...not easy to find even at an expensive price.

    This one?

Some of the early pressings were mastered without RIAA equalisation.

That one for sure had no RIAA on it. Find a later cutting, might be better, or not..

I saw this thread title and what came to me was:

"After midnight, we're gonna let it all hang out..."

    Yeah, wrong.

I also have the AP 33. It's great, more detailed, though perhaps not quite as fresh sounding as my original.

Reading and learning from this great thread again while listening to the AP SACD.

And it shows that Cole was a helluva jazz piano player.

I was hoping to pick up After Midnight on 45 rpm as part of a Black Friday sale. It’s on backorder. Crap! Not sure if it will ever be back in stock anywhere, but maybe I missed my chance. I have the SACD and it’s one of my favorite albums in my entire collection. But man, I’d love to hear the 45 rpm release!

I have seen them repress the Cole 45s. Keep checking (and you can call them to ask - I'm sure the inquiry will let them know that there's interest).

I placed back orders for both After Midnight and The Nat King Cole Story. A community college will be just fine for my daughter.

    Hah!

The series is probably my favorite 45rpm reissues. I listen to the Nat King Cole Story less than the others (as it contains some his later hokey material such as "Hazy, Lazy Days Of Summer"), but the presentation is extraordinary. I prefer to listen to the original albums like Love Is The Thing. After Midnight is both musically and sonically wonderful.

I have loved all the SACDs more than I can say. So great. I’m excited to get all the 45 rpm sets. Although both my vinyl and SACD setups are humble, my vinyl gear is less humble.

This one used the "Columbia LP" playback curve. The Gray 6-eye mono later pressings were re-cut with RIAA equalization when the original stampers were worn out.

Steve, I will venture that "After Midnight" stayed in print until sometime in 1963, maybe very early 1964 and then deleted. Made it just barely into the rainbow label, logo on top era.

Amazing that it would have been taken out of print at all. But, that’s show biz.

You understand that we added the later hits to the STORY package, right? It took months to get the rights to augment the set. No good deed goes unpunished.

So I took a look at the 10 track later Capitol reissue LP. Yikes, dig this ****ed up song selection, all to save a dime a disk:

    Side One
    Just You, Just Me
    Sweet Lorraine
    Caravan
    It's Only A Paper Moon
    You're Looking At Me

    Side two
    Lonely One
Don't Let It Go To Your Head
    I Know That You Know
    Blame It On My Youth
    Route 66

So you did. I just checked my original.

Just not my favorite of the sets. I love the arc, the flow of the original records. Not to say that you guys did didn't do a fantastic job with it. It's not a reflection on you. And visually, the set is just beautifully recreated, in fact better than the original. But he went from jazz and standards (which certainly were a type of pop of the time) to Ray Coniff type stuff. Had to sell records, I suppose.

If anyone has a copy of the After Midnight 45 rpm 3-LP Analogue Productions set just sitting around your home and you want to get rid of it, let me know.
