Post anything related to this fertile UK scene. Very much part of my youth and very big part of my musical education too. A good idea? Apologies if there already is a thread. Here's a great pic of Tygers of Pan Tang to get the ball rollin...
Diamond Head for me too. So many bands from that period. Obviously Maiden & Def Leppard were probably the biggest names. Saxon, Mended Prey, Praying Mantis, Sansom all released good stuff. Girlschool were great. Some of the proggier stuff too with Marrillion and Demon's The Plague LP. Raven were a big live fave. Some of the older guard were given a big boost by the scene.
DIAMOND HEAD. The self-proclaimed 'Natural Successors To Led Zeppelin', with which I totally agreed at the time. Sadly, they blew it, via bad management & the largely ridiculous Canterbury...
I've never heard Canterbury. It wasn't well promoted when it finally came out and I barely noticed it. Tommy Vance may have played a few tracks and if I wasn't listening that night I wouldn't have taken the risk as money was short during my school days.
Well, it has two of their greatest tunes held over from the early days, which are essential. Unfortunately, the rest of it is disposable, and suggests they couldn't decide whether they really wanted to be LZ/Sabs or U2/Queen. Still, it's nowhere near as bad as their 'Flight East' demos
Thank you. Total turn off for me. I'm not going to take time to try to decipher an acronym because someone finds it difficult to type a few words.
