DLR Rocks. Ball's to the wall. Just listen to On Fire from VH 1. Then listen to the Ripper Owens YouTube video where they play On Fire live. Bad. F#$king Ass.
An absolute gem of an album, great songs, killer guitars from Terry Kilgore/John Lowery (John 5) and Michael Hartman (who sadly passed soon after its release, Ray Luzier on drums. ‘Black Sand’ is one of Roth’s finest ever songs.
Brilliant post, thanks very much, Slippers. You do have a habit of steering me into new pastures of unfaltering splendour; much to git my teeth into, here.
I was driving along yesterday and reminisced about the few times I saw Dio perform and instances of back stage encounters. One thing Ronnie genuinely appreciated were his fans and I never knelt before a Metal King more giving of his time than the great man; started welling up a bit, just thinking about the impact his music has had on my life; occasionally loading up and then bathing in Rainbow On Stage is in places a truly emotional ritual. Got a bit confused because on what I'm assuming was the Lock Up The Wolves UK slog, I remember hailing Simon Wright but equally, some hazy recollection of having a laugh with Vinnie Appice (what a great, great guy) around the same era but can't for the life of me think which tour that would have been? Sheesh, this is decades ago; funny, only seems like yesterday...
Love the album, my favorite version of Voodoo is on there with Ronnie doing some extra lyrics on the tune. Have to spin this real soon !
Good stuff. Cleansing is a great album. I have been trying to figure out how to frame this record store promo poster from back in the day. It has such an odd shape (39" x 15.5") that I'll probably have to take it somewhere to have it done.
He was on w/Eddie Trunk and confirmed that date. Seemed impatient to get the music out. He said that the proposed new show opener is from the new album.
You're not wrong; Ronnie sings (and meanders) superbly on ths track but it's an album notorious - and rightly so - for a mix rendering the term bootleg perfectly apt. Please, somebody (who knows what they're doing) remix this album; if it sounded 80% as blistering as Ozzy's contemporary riposte I'd do a little jig.
Bootleg? Umph. Sounds crystal clear to me with thundering drums and growling bass. Most bootlegs I've heard sound trebbly like an FM station on a cheap portable radio that gets bad reception.
