If you have an Apple Music account, you already "have" Apple Digital Masters; all you have to do is stream a song or album whose download equivalent has the ADM badge.
I don’t understand what you want to be bundled. Whatever is in the iTunes Store is the same as what’s streamed on Apple Music.
If you purchased the files from itunes, or used itunes to rip a CD, those files are yours and can be shared or transferred to any other program that can play AAC format (which is nearly ANY program or device). Do not convert the files to mp3. This will degrade the quality even further than AAC already has. Keep the files as is, copy them to other computers or hard drives and listen away! Should be completely non-dependent on itunes.
New Apple Digital Masters released yesterday for Joni Mitchell’s Blue, Court And Spark, The Hissing Of Summer Lawns and Hejira.
And by the way, Ladies of the Canyon and Don Juan's Reckless Daughter are ADM too. For the Roses, Miles of Aisles, Mingus and Shadows and Light have been available as high-resolution downloads since 2013, but for some reason they haven't made ADM versions.
I also have Joni Mitchell - Blue. I thought this one was previously an Apple Digital Master? Is this a new remaster?
I'm quite certain that I looked at Joni Mitchell's iTunes catalogue sometime last year and no albums were marked ADM. I looked again in July of this year and noticed that some albums now have the ADM badge. The ℗ notices haven't been updated, so I have no way of knowing exactly when the change happened. My best guess is that these Joni Mitchell albums were "ADM'd" from the 24-bit downloads that were released in 2013.
Some of the Blue Note MFiT albums I have sound very nice indeed, I got a bunch when they where going very cheap.
The Joni Mitchell ADMs (and the 24-bit lossless downloads) have had no limiting or compression whatsoever applied during mastering. They sound good to me. The only other editions I have are the HDCDs, but I don't remember how they sound because I've hardly ever played them; I'm not a fan of HDCD.
I bought several Joni Mitchell albums last year when many were on sale for $4.99 and I can confirm they were not ADM at that time. Artwork for the current Blue ADM is slightly different than the version I bought on iTunes last year.
Do they sound the same...I have no idea. I don't want to shell out for the ADM at the moment to test. non ADM artwork New ADM artwork
I wonder what has prompted the need for a new logo? Doesn’t seem that long ago since MFiT became ADM with the logo change. No feelings one way or the other about the new logo, more a case of failing to see what the issue might have been for the original ADM logo - it was and still is fine.
Maybe some people thought that the discrete lines in the old logo was what an iTunes download waveform looks like. Not that the new logo looks anything like a waveform either ….
