Great album. Love the 1st three albums. They looked really cool too in this era. After Henry Paul left things get a bit hit and miss for me. Saw them live twice in 1988 during the "Soldiers Of Fortune" reunion tour with both Hughie and Henry. They were fantastic. Got to meet them both after one of the shows. Saw them again a few months before Hughie's passing. David Dix and Monte Yoho were both in the band.

that was cool you got to see them...Henry had great songs, but he was not a lead guitar player... yes it was diffident when he left but for me it was all about the guitars...and of course the songs...Hughie and Billy also had some fine songs! Hurry Sundown was a killer song!

"Hurry Sundown" is my favorite album by them. Killer title track! Even though I have this on cd and a mint lp, I still like to listen to this one on 8-Track.

Looks my Best of has 5 of the 10 tracks. I love me some Green Grass & High Tides! One of those monster 70s guitar solos that I never tire of! And if 10 minutes is great, the TWENTY-THREE is even better!

Yes, I first got this album on 8-Track. My original copy is a blue GRT cart and sounds pretty sweet.

Has anybody ever seen any video footage of them during the Henry Paul years? I've seen quite a bit from the Freddie Salem years but not earlier.

The albums with Henry Paul are the best for me because his songs leaned more toward the "country-rock" sound I like. Similar to what I wrote in the NRPS with Torbert's departure from that band, The Outlaws weren't the same without Paul. I kept my collection going after Paul left, but as Michael wrote above, those albums seemed to be "all about the guitars." I liked the first three albums Paul did with Blackhawk and lost interest after that. Recently, I bought his Gray Ghost and solo albums and I thought the first one with Gray Ghost was very similar to what he had recorded with The Outlaws. I saw The Outlaws several times with Paul and once with Freddie Salem and I saw Blackhawk once. All were great shows. The first time I saw The Outlaws was at the Poe Ditch Music Festival in 1975. I hadn't heard of The Outlaws before that and after seeing them that day, I was hooked and bought their first album as soon as I could.

I could not not be into them...I enjoyed all of the incarnations of the band, but they officially ended with Hughie & Billy gone...Hughie carried on after Billy but I felt the loss of Billy...damn shame.

What is the first album that anyone would recommend to get for someone who has no Outlaw albums?

Wonderful band. Probably top five for me.

One of those rare times when every incarnation has had something strong to offer. I'd probably rank the albums something like:

    5/5
    Hurry Sundown
    It's About Pride
    Debut
    Playin'To Win
    Ghost Riders
    Ladies In Waiting
    Soldiers Of Fortune

    4/5
In The Eye Of The Storm
    Diablo Canyon
    Los Hombres Malo

Also, if anyone's not heard it, the recent Legacy Live set makes an excellent companion to Bring It Back Alive.
