I love The Outlaws. That debut was very popular with my crew when it was released. They played in my area all the time, and I was able to catch them 3 times between '77-'79. I stopped buying their albums after the Live one, but I've discovered there are some good ones after that, like In The Eye Of The Storm. Freddie Salem and Harvey Dalton Arnold made some fine contributions to that line-up.
Freddie & Harvey were great. Proof positive that you can successfully replace beloved members of a band. The Freddie Salem & The Wildcats album Cat Dance, from 1982, is worth a listen.
I only saw the Outlaws once - the reformed version in 2005 with Hughie, Henry & the double drums of Monte & David.
HPB Grey Ghost is a favorite of mine! I needle-dropped the album in the 80's...I have yet to find a CD with equal sound of the original album...do you have it on CD? the one I have is terrible...
No, in fact I’m almost ashamed to admit I still have a couple of Outlaws titles on my ‘to purchase list’ to complete my collection. Probably the only group in the southern rock genre with holes in the catalog. I have Grey Ghost on vinyl but no longer play that format in any capacity. As I wrote, would love to see GG remasters and expanded to a deluxe edition similar to Gregg Allman Laid Back which I believe is out this week. It’s definitely worthy of a DE. Now that I’ve brought a bit of self imposed ‘shame’ to the forum, I’m headed to Amazon to order up some missing Arista/Outlaws titles. Hope y’all will forgive me!
I bought the Rock Candy reissue of Grey Ghost. Fantastic liner notes with lots of good info from Henry Paul himself. The sound? Loud! So when Wounded Bird reissued the 3 HPB albums as a 2 cd set I grabbed it. Sounds like you would expect a Wounded Bird title to sound. Nothing fancy liner notes though. I would love to read the liner notes to the other Rock Candy HPB titles but that's a lot of money when you don't want to actually listen to the cd.
Ordered it up and bonus tracks to boot. Not Deluxe Edition per se but close enough, and the whole Atlantic output in one package. https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Atlantic-Recordings-Henry-Paul/dp/B07KZHVJTM/
