Off for the Labour Day holiday, but will return with John's next LP:
    Another Monday (1966)

Of special note...Jacqui appears on several tracks!

And after this I think we'll do "Bert & John" from 1966 also.

    ⓒ Transatlantic Records Ltd. 1966
    Recorded London 1966

Very similar to this UK issue, apart from the pressing ring and label layout variation.
Also, this issue has "Another Monday TRA 149" printed on cover spine, where the other issue has no text on spine.

John playing “bottleneck style” adds to the bluesy feel of this spiritual vocal track.

    track 5) Lost Lover Blues
"A well known railroad blues originally recorded by Blind Boy Fuller.
Jacqui McShee sings with me on this one.
Jacqui is a young singer whom I first met at the Red Lion Club, Sutton,
    where she was resident."

Very cool to see Jacqui here for the "duo's" first pairing on vinyl.

    track 6) One For William
"A piece for oboe and guitar which starts
with a slow outline of the scale used
and then moves into an improvised middle
section with Jennifer de Montforte-Jones playing
a sustained melody over a rhythmic guitar pattern."

Quite unexpected and lovely. Stunning. I really love this special end-track to side one.

Interesting to hear Jacqui's harmonies popping up on Lost Lover Blues. Was this her first pro recording?

Not sure but I am thinking yes...John wanting to give her a leg up. She appears on "Can't Keep From Crying" on side two also.

During the intermission, a fine set by John and Wizz.

Two wonderfully distinctive styles that go together so damn well!

Interesting to me that Led Zep's phrasing of Nobody's Fault But Mine is fairly close to John's, and that these phrasing are distinct from any other versions of this tune I have heard.

Consistent with Page having also been influenced by Jansch on Black Mointain Side.

I’m a member of the camp that feels Led Zep “stole” BMS from Jansch or at the very least they did not give him proper attribution and a proportion of royalties.

Yep. Not to take away from the enormous talent of Zep, but they were much less than forthcoming on the artists and songs that influenced them.
How many times have they been sued for "stealing" a riff or four, or even another's complete arrangement/song outright.

    Next up...a fan favorite:

    Bert & John 1966

Bert and John is the fourth album by the Scottish folk musician Bert Jansch, released in 1966. A number of songs are performed with friend and fellow guitarist John Renbourn, who would later join him in the group Pentangle. An expanded version of the album was later released in America in 1969 by Vanguard as Stepping Stones. It featured two extra tracks, "It Don't Bother Me" and "My Lover".[3]
