Cheap junk by the standards of this board, but I like it...

Absolutely nothing wrong with a QL-A7 as far as I'm concerned. I've got a QL-F4 in the garage that I've gotten many years of reliable service from.

Besides, yours looks better than mine!

@ Mondie: I love that Kuzma 4Point  ...well maybe one day.

Here's a picture of my vinyl rig (components are listed in my profile):

Unfortunatly it's still sitting on the ground... I wanted to put it on a Tabula Rasa Basis 600 but that isn't wide enough. Now i'm trying to decide whether i should have a wider version of it built, or try to build it myself. I'm intrigued by the idea of DIY project but i don't quite trust my "skills" as a craftsman

Either way i'll post more pics once the table is properly set up.

  12. Your JVC QL-A7 is by no means "cheap junk". IMHO the Japanese direct-drives are fantastic. Get them cheap while you can, as the word about how great these tables are is beginning to spread...

    Fabian,
As a suggestion, it's possible to get a custom-sized sheet of granite or marble countertop from most kitchen remodeling companies, I'll bet most can make a beautiful addition to your existing setup and you would be astounded how inexpensively (in audio terms...)

I just bought a piece of 20"x 30" granite countertop for $85 and had them edge it for another $20...from a remnant.

Thorens TD125 MKII w/ SME 3009 II, I've owned since 1977. Rock solid, I've spent maybe $5 for oil for the motor and $10 in belts, she just keeps spinnin' and I keep 'n

I had an SL-D2. A solid, very reliable table that sounded good as I remember it.

I just picked up one from an estate sale in super clean condition w/cartridge for $25.00. Holds the speed dead on.

Hey Old Rusty, I haven't seen one of those "Pod" record clamps in a long time. I always liked that design for clamping power without the added weight. Do you know if they're still available anymore?

  23. The Eon Pod Record Clamp was made in Canada sometime late 1970's early 1980's & seems to be very rare. I got mine on eBay.ca for $9 last spring. Works like a charm for a cheap piece of plastic!

Thanks Karl, a friend of my parents is in the business of selling these kinds of stone. I'll give him a call next week. He's also an audiophile so that's two good reasons for him to give me a discount :)

Recently resurrected my old clunker from the mid '80s and it hasn't missed a beat. Reading the above comment gave me the courage to post a pic :)
