Saw this in the other thread
What is the purpose of the center post, which now appears to have an adjustable counterweight?
    Anchoring a floating plinth?

The goal is to always have the platter be level. Those counter weights at the bottom allow you to adjust that post so the platter is lever with the floor. Then if something changes (and I don't know what - Is there a problem with gravity in the future?), the platter will continue to be level.

Well, it's not like you live in the most stable part of the world...
    Interesting solution.

Yea, very high value hardware like that probably warrants some kind of non-intrusive wall strap in earthquake country unless no chance of falling over. And I'd want to make sure that picture above it isn't gonna come crashing down on that tonearm either, but I've lost some things in the past so may be overly cautious :)

I've been wanting to upgrade my turntable lighting for some time now. I finally bought an inexpensive, dimmable, "desk lamp" w/ adjustable color temperature and made it happen.

I went to a sub-NHL level hockey game tonight (first time in a couple of years), and the lady that sang the opening anthems was absolutely incredible. I'm sorry that I can't recall her name because she gave me goosebumps for the majority of the time she sang. My emotional connection has nothing to do with patriotism, her voice just completely derailed me- I was fully caught off guard by her skill, power, and conviction (and the quality of the sound of her voice in that venue). I wonder if that moment meant much to her, because she rocked my world and absolutely crushed it from my seat. Even my wife, who is not music oriented, commented on how amazing the singer was.
My apologies for that tangent! I meant to post about this turntable that continually blows my mind. It has become a seriously powerful source of joy for me. Something that seems to be harder to find elsewhere anymore. The emotional connection I feel with music, now more than ever, has become undeniably irreplaceable, and very much due to the improvement of fidelity I've been experiencing over the past few years. I'm constantly amazed by how soulfully moving recorded music can be, and the experience of hearing it has become so engaging that it's become a necessity to my happiness.

Cheers, to finding happiness wherever it derails us.

Lovely! Can you comment on your sense of what the materials of the plinth bring to the sound? Baltic birch?

Although I've mostly used Baltic Birch for laminated plywood plinths since the 90s, this one I built for my Rek O Kut L34 Rondine Jr. used cheaper grade 3/4" plywood. But it worked just as well.

IME, it's more important to set up the turntable mechanism (idler wheel, motor suspension spring/grommets, etc.) to perform as quiet as possible. The heavy plinth shouldn't be used as a band-aid to dampen vibrations caused by a worn out or hardened idler wheel and/or damaged motor suspension rubber grommets or springs.

Essentially the massive plinth should just absorb extraneous noise after the turntable has been fully tweaked/tuned.

Just scored a new Merrill Scillia MS2 from Anthony Scillia. He has one left. When it's gone they're gone forever.

Yeah...just asking...the one I saw a while back had a separate un attached PSU. Maybe its an add on? Unless yours has wood on top? Maybe a wider shot so we can see what it is?
