This has all the hallmarks of bringing out the snake oil/denier/etc folks… Fremer, $200, makes your cartridge sound like it’s much more expensive. Deserves its own thread!
Im always looking for the "dots" in pics. I see them now and then. And No, im not going there. Wolves are hungry.
It's hard to imagine a mechanism by which they would work, and I've never heard one offered, so for me there is nothing to discuss. This thread is about pictures of turntables, though, so we should honor that and post other things in other threads.
Am I mistaken in that the pictured dustcover is resting on the platter and that it could be bumped and rotated on the platter to impact the tonearm? I think I'd prefer dust in that scenario!
Nope. Hard pass. My turntable has a hinged cover though so it'd be hard to imagine owning a turntable w/ a fiddly cake cover. To each their own.
The designer made the assumption that the user has two working hands and eyesight better than a mole. Honestly it's not hard - at least as easy as a transparent toilet seat.
That is true, although belt tension kind of adds resistance. If it does rotate the contact points are fairly benign. It was an element of the table I was unsure about when I bought it. After having lived with it, and considering the table checked all my other boxes generally, I don't mind it. One benefit I've come to appreciate is that it absolutely keeps dust off the platter surface. My previous dust cover had more traditional hinges, but pet hair and dust would enter around the sides, so the value in regards to dust was less than you might expect, and it did allow some dust to settle on the platter. I've yet to turn the table on with the cover on. That would be lively.
Hey ho FuzzyNightmares, and cheers. Tube glow on a snowy weekend sounds pretty nice. Enjoy those! I'm hiding out downstairs in my solid state haven trying to get a break from my kids. Too many home-from-school snow days for this guy!
looks like just adding weight like in the old days of the 80s, but now Synergistic Research added some fake technology to it.
Start a separate thread so all the naysayers can pile on there, rather than derailing this one. JohnK
Finally got my butt in gear and threw some pics up on Imgur. Here's my lineup. Top: KAB-modified Technics SL-1200 Mk 5. Carts: Grado Reference Sonata 1, Stanton 681EEE (purchased 1979 and still singing sweetly), AT VM95EN. Middle: A rarely seen Oracle Paris, bought in 1992 and still truckin'. Tonearm: Sumiko Premier MMT. Cart: Shelter 501 Mk II. It's my beauty and my sentimental favorite. Bottom: two-week old Rega Planar 3. Cart: Exact 2. I thought that before I buy the farm, I ought to earn my true audiophile certification by owning a Rega. (If you think that little TV perched atop the Rega looks a bit precarious, that makes two of us. But it's solid, and I check it every day. Space is tight; got to do what you got to do!
