I think it's worth it to see all the episodes, if only to see how they found different ways to explore the themes of the series each time. It wasn't the kind of program that had a linear build of plot each week, nor one that culminated and tied things together. It was more of an examination. As you likely noticed, even the final episode wasn't meant to offer a clear closure to The Prisoner's plight- though McGoohan did imply that we're all stuck in the Village by showing some electronic functions at the end (I think his London apartment door swings open automatically as he approaches- something like that). Beware the cozy cage. What a fantastic, surreal, creative project!
Yes. The only way to fully appreciate the beautiful tapestry that is the Prisoner is by watching all of them. There are recommended viewing orders out there on the web.
I know I’m brand new and this may sound completely stupid but are there any fan theories that number 6 might be Nelson Brenner from the Columbo episode Identity Crisis?
I bought this over a year ago on DVD before I had a blu ray player. I have only watched 2 or 3 episodes. Is the BR version so much better that I should forget about my dvd set and get a blu ray version? I have a BR player now. But the only cheap version is non-US format. If I want multi-format it's over $100, forget that! I hate when that happens.
The Blu-ray is absolutely gorgeous and a big upgrade from DVD. The UK distributor Network on Air has recently done some nice box set editions with lots of new extras.
I have never heard that one, but the best rumor is that Number 6 is John Drake from Patrick McGoogan's previous serious Secret Agent. I like to think that Number 6 is John Drake.
I just made it up. But being the ambiguity of Number 6’s story, him being an American double agent 8 years later wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
He appeared in two of the original. In one he plays a double agent (?!?!?) in the other he plays a headmaster at a military school. He’s also in two more Columbos when the show came back. One as a lawyer type government advisor with quite a past and plenty on connections (?!?!) and another as a funeral home director.
So far I’ve seen episode 1 and 17. Last night I watched A. B. and C. I think I love this show...but what I’m I so afraid of
Realtime. Didn’t the show come tv on a Sunday? Always remember the last episode. Was there much red tape for them to use All You Need Is Love?
Just as a sideline, Good Morning Good Morning still appears in Episode 58 of the Monkees. According to Dolenz, he just asked McCartney. I find that hard to believe though.
I love the show, but how #6 could not tell he was in Wales is pretty hard to accept. He lived in England, was familiar with the climate of the British Isle, the birds and other animals, and yet he at one point thought he was in North Africa? I know, suspension of disbelief, it's an allegorical program and all that.
