    The Problem With Music

Yes, the article is almost 30 years old, and the main thrust of it (signing new bands and the money made) isn't as big a mystery now as it was back then, and things have changed. A bit.

No, what I found more interesting was his section about recording, especially engineers vs producers.

I especially liked this quote (and I believe most here would as well)...

"I want to find the guy that invented compression and tear his liver out. I hate it. It makes everything sound like a beer commercial."
Little did he know how much worse things would get!

Anyhoo, I just wanted to hear modern perspectives on this article from members of this forum...

Great quote and a great article. And think the processes Albini describes in 1993 are still the same and probably have been since the beginning of recording music.

Lying scumbags in the music industry ? - surely not <cough>

    I like Albini a lot.
Imagine he would be 'difficult' to have as a friend
    :)
    or maybe not
He's done a lot of good stuff.
Thanks to John Peel for playing him and his work.

Allmusic lists way more than I thought.
Where does he find the time ?
