Perhaps it's time for the upcoming 'Mission 770' to have its own thread. Made in the UK! This interview with designer Peter Comeau tells us everything about the new Mission 770 except for its price. Frustrating!
After watching the interview I was telling myself that these are going to be my next speakers. Oh, Lord! I couldn't find a picture of the Walnut version (as seen in the video) but they look gorgeous even though I'm usually not a fan of white. Somehow the combination of walnut and the white baffle looks great!
I agree! There's something about them that reminds me of a '82 Porsche 911 in white Have you seen this one? He speaks a little more about them and how they compare to the Linton's... sounds like quite a different presentation!
Of course! I posted that one in the long Linton thread. Anyone wants to take a guess at how much they will be going for? I'm hoping 2000 Euro but maybe that's not realistic.
I have an old mission and I love the sound of it. I think it s 763i. The driver size is 8 inch 2-way and the wattage is likely 100 watts max which is very rare for an 8" with a low wattage cabinet. I'm able to drive it with my 18 watt tube amp almost perfect. My only nit-pick of personal preference is I wish it wasn't black and the other one is I wish the firing port was on the back. With a little help of redesigning, I made a decision on summer, I will extend the base of the cabinet to become 91 liters, cover the front port. And port 4 inch tunnel on the back side so this baby will "PUMP". I will paint it with lacquer off white. Do some serious bang on this cabinet. I'm on a "Mission"....
I'm really interested in this reboot. They look gorgeous. Be interested to hear them in person. I have a pair of Mission 737R's that I still get a kick out of. Fun stuff.
I love Missions. Still using my 752’s, 700’s and some Heybrook HB2’s that Peter Comeau had a big part in. I won’t be buying these though as I am a relatively poor ‘audiophile’ who hardly ever buys anything from new. I’d like a pair though!!!
My 752s are still going strong too. 25 years old and would probably benefit from new caps in the crossovers, if I could get around to it.
Best system I ever heard at someones home was a Naim Nait Original with Mission 770 Freedom Speakers with Rega Apollo-R CD Player. Sounded awesome.
The Brits do build some great compact speakers..... will be interesting to see how these do in the market
At least they did back then before all this Asia involvement. IMO only few Far East made speakers does shine, most is mass-produced, nobody listen. I'm sure new 770 will be expensive as being made in UK, my guess €3000-4000 but hope for less. By this introduction, the original 770 suddenly have much higher value for owner of cared pairs.
Sorry but most of what you are saying is just blasphemous nonsense, would we all love our speakers built in the UK or the U.S. ect sure...but that doesn't mean something made in China cant be built to exceptionally high standards...
The new Mission 770 should be available and ready for shipment by the end of this month! In walnut finish and ... ... in black! BTW, finally we see the stands for the Mission 770! Rrrr! Now for the bad news ... £3500 per pair, stands included.
