Do you have a catalog number? I can't see a remix mention in the Discogs database, and I'd be a buyer.
I have always loved the original Let My Love Open The Door by Pete Townshend but recently the remix overtook the original as my preferred version. I feel the slower, spacier remix fits the subject better than the fast paced original. This got me thinking of what other remixes people prefer to the originals? For the haters, please refrain from sharing your disgust of remixes and how art should be left alone, thanks!
Here is a fairly comprehensive thread that I was actually recently browsing that I found interesting: The remix is so good I can’t listen to the original anymore. Any examples?
It is definitely clearer overall, however I quite love the original in terms of impact of the songs and the hard hitting nature of it - although I do like the remix still too especially the clarity and up-front nature of the lead vocal tracks
none, but if I had to pick one it probably would be Aqualung as I enjoy this just as much as the original......
Devo - Duty Now for the Future Original mix sounds thin as hell. Even some member of Devo said something to the effect that the producer took all the guts out of the music. The Japanese “This is the Devo Box” remix used for the cd and record store day vinyl box adds a little, dare i say, balls to the record.
People have too much of a purist attitude towards old music, IMO. The Iggy Mix of Raw Power is way better than the original. The Closet Mix of The Velvet Underground's self titled album is way better than the original. Let It Be Naked is way better than Let It Be. Double Fantasy Stripped Down is way better than Double Fantasy The 50th Anniversary Mixes of those Beatles albums are way better than the original stereo mixes (which I find outright bad), but might not be as good as the mono mixes. .... and many more that don't immediately spring to mind. Steve Wilson's great as well, but I'm not a huge fan of most of the artists that he chooses to remix. These things should be elevated despite their age because they're legitimately great, but they shouldn't be treated as sacred for its own sake, IMO. I would personally love it if someone who knew what he was doing de-Wall-of-Sound-ed All Things Must Pass, for example.
I suspect this is not the sort of thing in most SHTV members' wheelhouses (nor mine, for that matter), but for me this is a good example of remix > original:
From what understand (reading the dates on the VU 45th anniversary box of '3rd'), the Reed 'Closet Mix' came first and the 'Valentin Mix' came second. In which case i prefer the remix. However, I thought the purpose of this thread was to discuss non-contemporaneous remixes.
Body Movin by the Beastie Boys Remix by Fat Bit Slim The Flesh for Fantasy Remix that appears on Vital Idol.
As I said in the other thread , Devo’s Duty Now for the Future. The This is the Devo Box remix gives it some much needed bass
