I never knew of this as only kept up with those endless Beatles toys when collecting some of them later. This stones guitar is truly incredible…What a prize.
Aftermath 1966 The Rolling Stones From the 10 LP Taiwanese Set from 1973 Rolling Stones Golden Album "I still haven't spun all of these discs yet!"
No and it wasn't released on 7" in the UK until 1971 & UK export singles from 1968 carried the quality mix!
Other countries also got the inferior mix, in Australia we got it initially IIRC on a promo and it was quickly replaced with the better mix (we all know and love) for the stock copy.
I got a (mono, of course) copy of Flowers for my birthday in 1967. I still have a soft spot for all those "weedy" pop songs... their half-assed version of "My Girl" being the only exception.
I agree but Ruby is great, or what a great single. The compilation is Flowers... by The Rolling Pop Stones The biggest hit of the period was not included. Too dark? And Brian on ... 1967
The US BTB was a compilation too. The UK album is the real BTB (just like The Beatles UK albums are the real thing). What was "the biggest hit of the period" not included on Flowers? Paint It Black you mean?
I had a Beatles box like that I bought in Kaoshiung in 1980, but I regrettably sold it about 10 years later (for peanuts)
It's called "American version" One thing that Capitol Rec didn't do, but London /ABKCO did, was to add songs to UK versions. Like, yes, Paint it, Black to Aftermath etc. Would be nice to have an American version of Their Satanic Rec with We Love You and Dandelion.
Only in the heads of European people. Stated hundreds of times that the US albums were compiled and authorized by the band. Very different from The Beatles.
I have difficulty getting my head around the band themselves selecting ‘My Girl’ for inclusion on Flowers. It seems somewhat anachronistic and incongruous by comparison with the other songs, and it just isn’t very good.
I read on the forum a while ago that Loog Oldham did both the UK and US tracklists. Personally, I go for the UK albums, I find they flow a bit better
I've tried and tried to get into the Stones albums pre Beggars Banquet but I always come to the same conclusion. Great singles band, lacklustre albums. One of the first Stones albums I ever listened to was The Singles Collection: The London Years and I found that I liked pretty much all the songs. This led me to the studio albums and I was surprised, bar maybe a dozen songs, of the quality drop off between the a/b sides and the albums.
