I’m glad that there are others who have figured out that It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll is an underrated masterpiece. I was very pleasantly surprised when I listened to it for the first time given its reputation - for my money, only Sticky Fingers beats it as far as 70s Stones are concerned.

Just wanted to reiterate Parachute Woman's thoughts on "Black and Blue" since her words are a spot on synopsis of a unique Stones' album... like "Satanic Majesties", "Exile" and even "Undercover" the Black and Blue album is a truly singular record, a one-off that could never be repeated even if the band wanted to repeat it. The songs are so varied stylistically that in a way it serves as a rough template for the later albums (except for Blue and Lonesome of course) which seem to routinely contain rock, country, blues, reggae, etc. I wouldn't mind if they attempted to recapture the 'sound' of the album in terms of production but who could've guessed how much fun an audition album would be? Several others on this thread have properly assessed this album highly and my hat is off to all of y'all!

I often see Fool To Cry given a similar degree of criticism, but at least it’s got a good arrangement and an awesome coda going for it.

Question for the experts here ——-

When Brussels Affair was released in 2011, did it actually appear with an affordable price?? Because I see it now goes for $600 on Discogs. What the heck?

Was available as a download thru Google Music for $5? To get it in a physical format you had to buy $$$ box set for vinyl. Later a more affordable cd became available thru Japan

I paid $199 on ebay for mine. People got it when they purchased tickets and then dumped them online.

I’m a Black and Blue fan, and Some Girls is a strong album, though not a personal fave.

They became more of a self-parody as the decade progressed. They made some good to great music, but they became so different, especially Mick. Although the addition of Ronnie Wood had something to do with it.

Why can't I get this fact straight in my mind?
Sometimes I think late '79 blurs right into early '80...and beyond.

An underrated gem and a terrific "sounding" Stones album from the 70's.
None of this album was really "overplayed" which keeps it fresh sounding after all these years.

Even it's biggest hit -' Fool To Cry '--only made it to #10 in Billboard.
But that's just fine , no overexposure keeps it new and an exciting listen. Going to play ' Hey Negrita ' right now. What a groove on that tune.

All are gems to me. Always on the Pod, always listened to. Defining records that shaped rock after the 60s.
