    Wow, this is good news!

  2. Are any audio clip samples up anywhere? Couldn't find anything on Amazon or iTunes...

    This is indeed cool!!
And this is very easy to answer why we're seeing these releases, the Stones (Mick Keith) don't make any money on early stuff put out by Abkco, (new compilations that is) which comprised of a lot of 'covers'. Abkco would make money on the physical product, but M&K wouldn't see a dime. So they're letting certain things slip into PD. That way they screw Abkco from $ and since the PD companies ARE paying royalties, if it's a M&K song, they will get royalties for doing nothing........very shrewd business people. Think of it, it's genius, and us fans will get all this unreleased stuff, hopefully in great quality while stuff sits in Abkco's vault rotting with no incentive to put it out.
Remember, Abkco cannot release any NEW compilation at all without M&K signing off on it. So the Glimmer Twins NOW have Abkco by the balls.
    Interesting turn of events.

Wow. This is really something.

  5. I'll be a believer when I hear it. Frankly, the cover art showing a photo-shopped cut out image of the band posing in front of the Eiffel Tower on the Paris '65 set doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.

BTW - that's one show that if done correctly would be really wonderful. It's about time that horrible 'reverby' hard-ED'ed "remaster" that's been circulating for a while gets put to rest...

The CD Dave. I haven't yet heard the vinyl.
I've been collecting Stones Boots since 1973 including a number of BBC and TV tracks and have never even heard any of these tracks. Pretty amazing that somebody has been sitting on these for all these years.

  8. Seriously? The Chess outtakes, BBC Joe Loss shows, various TV appearances, live '65 Paris gig, etc., have all been in wide circulation for quite some time. I see nothing on any of their collections that I don't already have.

As I only have some if these tracks (and I'd say in poorer quality), they're a must have for me, especially at those prices. Although I may pass on the one with the very early original material on it. If the ones that made it on to Metamorphosis are anything to go by, they're not much chop. I'm interested in the Chess stuff and the live BBC material...and that Paris concert.

Looking forward to seeing what they put out next.

This is exciting stuff for sure. I have a few old boots of some of this stuff, but the audio quality promosed sure makes me want to start buying again.

My favourite old boot track from this era is Cops & Robbers. Unfortunately I don't see it in the track listings!

My Stones at the BBC vinyl arrived today.
It's red vinyl - whoo hoo
I'll put it on over the next couple of days and see how it sounds. I'll compare it with the CD boots of the BBC stuff I already have.
And of course give a short review :)

My LP arrived today. Just finished giving it a listen. The Joe Loss Show material is definetely a major upgrade over what I've heard. The April 1964 show is a notch above the July '64 show in terms of SQ. The Mike Douglas and Ed Sullivan Show tracks are decent sounding. The guitar solo on Time Is On My Side was edited out for some reason.

My copy wasn't noisy and the SQ is pretty good for what is essentially a bootleg. It's worth getting for the Joe Loss Show tracks.

Just seen that this is available in UK on blue vinyl. Reduced to 15 tracks due to limitations of vinyl.

    In a word........should I be buying this?

Oh, I forgot to give a review of the cd version so here it goes:
All the Chess tracks are in MONO. Excellent quality, except for 'Reelin And Rockin' which is a really bad sounding mp3 low bit rate version-horrible, But the mono versions have been overshadowed a long time ago by the stunning stereo versions. The rest tv and bbc tracks are excellent quality also. But being a seasoned collector there is nothing to get excited about with this release.

Beave, have you heard the CD with the outtakes from late 1963 early '64? It Should Be You, etc.

No Tommyboy, not the cd but I did buy the album which is this one:

    http://www.amazon.de/Rolling-Stones...22581&sr=8-1&keywords=the+rolling+stones+doxy

The album's mastering is fantastic. And it has an alternate studio version of 'it should be you' that just kicks a$$-really does. I got mine from Amazon.UK but they've completely erased the entry from their database, so I have no idea whether it's been pulled or recalled, but the above link shows that Amazon.de still is carrying it. Whomever Doxy got to master this LP, he knows how to pull out some good fidelity, even some of lesser quality bbc takes here, like 'Crackin Up' still sound better than any boot I've heard. In fact it sounds like a lower quality 'legit' take. So although I paid $20 for it, it really is worth it to me, unlike the cd we're also talking about, which comes across like a boot.
And remember Doxy is a legit record label owned by a Jazz artist, so although they deal in PD stuff, they seem to have the right 'real' engineers to put out great sounding vinyl.

Could one of you either publicly or privately (via PM) tell me which one of these I should get? I am definitely in for the Paris '65, but I want to know if I should get other specific titles. I think it comes out to 3 or 4 of them and that I should pass on a few others for not being complete enough. If these are good enough upgrades, I will start culling through my old boots. Plus, I'm a CD guy.

I finally got around to putting the Live at the BBC... and Beyond LP on and playing it.
It is pretty good. The sound quality is pretty good for what it is, a dub of the tapes, not being exactly audiophile quality to begin with.
The LP is definitely better than the CD. Same mastering, better sound. The claim that the LP is done from 192/24 files is plausible.

The CD of this is better than the "Rolling Stones BBC sessions" boot I already had with the Joe Loss show stuff on it. The LP is then better again.

It's really cool to get this stuff in this sound quality. Well worth picking up.
