I thoroughly enjoyed it. 32 tracks flew by! The only bad flaw that spoils it for me is the glitch in The Last Time. I'm happy with it.

I got the Beatles BBC Vol.2 not long ago when DeAgostini released it as I could not afford it on vinyl when it was originally released. I was bored listening to it. I found the four individual interviews more entertaining than the music! It's fine for what it is, but I don't see it getting played much. I played the first volume a lot.

Other than a few key tracks such as "Words Of Love", this pretty much sums it up for me too.

Back when rumours started circulating about the Stones BBC sessions being released there was an indication that there would be a documentary to accompany it. I wonder whether this was really on the cards.

The Vault dvd releases have obviously been focused on the post Jones years. Would love to have something that pulls together those early tv performances and interviews.

I've got the Beat Beat Beat At The Beeb and Get Satisfaction ...If You Want! boots.

    Is this worth getting too?

No. It's taken from those same boots but with fake stereo effects added.

    Many thanks.

But, I gather, you don't think those are the best boots for Stones at the BBC, sound quality wise?

The best boot is download-only and called "Complete BBC Sessions", but it's already obselete - there is a new one coming out soon with most of the material on disc 1 upgraded.

So I discovered this new BBC set that WonkyWilly mentioned, there's quite a bit of improvement on disc 1.

No more noise reduction on the 1963 tracks, and they have longer fades now!
"Not Fade Away" (missing from the official set) is finally free of NR as well.
Looks like they've found a better source for the crappy sounding transcription disc that plagued previous sets too, so all of the 1965 material sounds awesome now.

Pretty sure most of disc 2 is the same as previous versions.

Cool. Look forward to finding this.
It is a shame that a bunch of fans are able to get the best out of this material (without access to masters or low-gen dubs) and organisations such as Stones, ABKCO, Universal can't get their act together. I'm not convinced the BBC was involved in much of a way in this release with perhaps only the most cursory of sign-offs and a cash per track used scenario but I'd be interested to know that for sure. I think it's telling that there is barely a mention of the BBC in the official release in terms of the legalese. Why might that be ?
I was told by a reliable source that when the official On Air set was in production, Universal were informed about many of the various best quality surviving closest to master tapes sources and where exactly to get them. Did they act upon this info ? (no, in case you were wondering).
As I whined earlier in this subject, if you know little about the Stones BBC sessions and hadn't heard them before then this release is pretty exciting stuff and the book was quite interesting.
Unfortunately, much of the book's info about their radio and tv appearances was simply lifted from inferior sources or not researched at source. The cd is based on the book.
What a shame....I wonder if Universal were even aware of the existence of the "Jones-era holy grail" March 64 Radio Luxembourg acetate and there is even a rumour of the existence of a stereo (!) master tape, the latter unconfirmed but allegedly owned by someone with links to the Stones organisation.
Let's hope a properly compiled, sourced and researched On Air 2 is a possibility. When the Fab4 released a Volume 2, some (not all) problems with the first set were worked out. I suggest the Stones copy the Beatles in that regard and while they're at it, include a secret track - the Rice Krispies commercial ! It's a bona fide On Air track (UK TV) and proof that you don't have to wear matching suits and bow to the Queen to sell out.:D
Time for a coffee and a bowl of snap, crackle and pop. In fact there's a title for volume 2 featuring the Radio Luxembourg acetate and Rice Krispies commercial. Snap, Crackle and Pop.

I recently purchased the double LP in yellow, and I have to say the set sounds pretty darn good to me. At least a lot better than I expected, and although a big fan for over 30 yrs I hadn’t heard the original bootlegs, so I don’t have a lot to compare it to. You get the feeling of what a great bar band they were back in the beginning, I am very happy with it.

It certainly has me tapping my feet! ha

I just listened to Disc 1 of the CD Deluxe last weekend, and continue to have the same feeling. I got it on release and have enjoyed the whole thing. I also don't have any of the bootlegs, but I think this is a great set.

If you would have bootlegs then you would had realise that this is not a great set at all.

Don't hate me for not reading all 40 pages, but I hoped for the consensus about the book.

It's fairly cheap at B&N and I'll get it if it's regarded as good!
