Ah, you must be a Brian Jones fan.

I do like the London/Decca era as much as the Taylor era up to Tattoo You.

You know, with Abkco pretty much out of ammo legally, unless their back catalogue has reoccurring massive sales, they just might try to sell the catalog back to the Stones.
Let’s chew on that for a bit!

They actually did start pulling that trick, back in 1964 or 1965. Wasn't Brian playing well way back then?

From the extensive reading I've done, lots of people other than Mick and Keith have good things to say about Jones. George Harrison, Jimmy Page, Ginger Baker, the Byrds, Bo Diddley, the list is long. Even members of the 27 Club: Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix. Brian was the only member of the Stones invited to play on a Beatles recording.

Bulls eye, that pretty much sums it up. The dead make such convenient scapegoats.

Which books would you recommend ? I just read The Magnificent Ambersons but it didn't have any Stones content and the film was butchered after two reels.

These guys who only had good things to say, didn’t have to deal with his erratic behaviour every day. Very easy to stand on the other side of the fence. Scapegoat or not, it seems some people will defend every move the man made, no matter how crazy it was.

John (Lennon Remembers - Rolling Stone 1970 Jann Wenner) - "He was one of them guys that disintegrated right in front of you. In the early days he was alright because he was young and confident. But in the end he was one of them guys that you dreaded he'd come on the phone - you knew it was trouble. He was in a lot of pain. And he wasn't sort of brilliant. He was just a nice guy."

Thank you, for confirming that Brian was a nice guy. Being in pain doesn't make you a bad person.

Some that spoke well of him personally & I mean in non musical terms:

    Shirley Arnold
    Ronnie Money
    Helen Spittal
    Paul Mcartney
    George Harrison

The first two ladies knew him pretty well.

I’m not sure what the significance of this is supposed to be.

The significance is supposed to be that they wouldn't ask somebody they disliked to play on their records.

Could you imagine him walking out on stage in front of that Altamont crowd in the shape he was in?

Brian's chauffer Mr Palastanga sold him out to the papers before the body had cooled.

Post #195: "Nobody who knew him seems to have anything nice to say about Brian"... that was part of the quote that I reprinted and replied to.

    Back to the performances...

The Stones were fine, although the wee hour of the morning is obvious at times.

The Who were amazingly good. A Quick One may be their best performance of any song, ever.

The Who stole the show. That's exactly why the Stones (Mick) nixed putting the Circus out for so long. They couldn't be upstaged on their own production.

I can imagine him getting help and support from those around him and turning his life and career around, as Keith did after his 1977 bust in Toronto.

This thread is about the new Rock and Roll Circus releases, not how good/bad/loved/unloved Brian Jones was.
