I think i know why my last thread of this has been deleted, so I stay well clear of it, and also check my spelling before posting.

The Shangri-Las are fast becoming one of my favorite Girl Groups. They have a very distinctive sound and it really shows.

For the people who haven't heard of them, I recommend these songs:

    Leader of the Pack
    Remember (Walkin' In The Sand)
Give Him A Great Big Kiss

So, what do you think about them. Dicuss.

    And a few pictures:

So many great lines in their songs...how can you not love them?

When I say I'm in love, you best believe I'm in love, L-U-V

Well I hear he's bad. Hmm, he's good-bad, but not evil

Listen. Does this sound familiar? You wake up every morning, go to
school every day, spend your nights on the corner just passing the time away.
Your life is so lonely like a child without a toy. Then a miracle; a boy. And that's
    called "glad."

Look out! Look out! Look out! Look out!

I really like their version of the Tymes "So Much In Love" on side two of the Leader of the Pack LP. Too bad it has that fake audience "ambiance". Anyone know if just the music has ever been released?

I saw them many, many years ago on the Soupy Sales show (it could've been Lloyd Thaxton's show, 'cause I know they showed it in the NYC area). Anyhow, even as a kid, I could tell they were cool. I loved Leader of the Pack, too ("DANG IT").

I'm finding that my favorite song is "Give Him A Great Big Kiss".

Also, i've been watching clips which have all four of them, and it just seems odd. They just seem more normal with just 3.

    Some great in-the-studio pictures:

While it exists, it has not been released. Officially.
All of those undubbed tracks, and more exist in stereo. There's at least one unreleased song too. My understanding is that the people that own the tapes don't own the rights to release them, and vice versa. Unfortunately, I think it unlikely that a complete, official retrospective will ever get released, which is a grand shame.

They started off as a four-piece, then Betty took a break because she got pregnant. After she returned, each of the Ganser twins left for a while. Mary was the only constant through the years.

Mary lip synching to Betty's lead vocal on "Shout".
It's funny that you can post that link, but probably couldn't talk about where it came from...

Mary Weiss is my friend on Facebook. She's a great lady.

I have some great stories but I can't talk about them, don't want to jinx a project that is in the works. Keep your fingers crossed, this time it might work....

I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I can only hope that this means that we might finally get some good sounding mono Shangs on cd.
