Are these guys trying to get a sales rush, or is this bad news for real? :sigh: I was hoping I'd be able to afford one.. someday.

This is bad news indeed. I was hoping to pick one up when I could afford one. I hope it isn't true.

I think this is untrue. For instance, this cartridge gets highest respect from all over the industry, is enjoying good sales success, is on TOP of any other similar products in its class and Shure certainly put it in high regard on their website:

    http://www.shure.com/phono/v15vxmr.html

If Shure's taking it off the line, it really doesn't look that way. It would be like firing its best employee.

Yes, it sounds a bit odd to me too. I sent an email to Shure, I'll report back.

Maybe they're discontinuing this model for a newer, more betterest (improved even) model. Companies do this all the time. Fostex discontinued their T-20 headphones for the T-20 RP and then the T-20 RP mkII. They are all essentially the same headphones except for a few small changes.

I'd be surprised if it was being discontinued, but how do you know it's selling well?

  7. I did e-mail them, and got a reply from Bill Oakley, Marketing Specialist / Phonograph Product Manager - it's true.

I certainly hope so. I was going to buy one in a few months for a turntable I'm working on. However, they have discontinued it in the past and resurrected it (hence the "x" version that is currently out, vs the original Type V I own already).

    :(

Well, that'll drive up eBay prices for sure.

How many of us hardcore vinyl nuts would it take to petition them to keep it in production?

Since we at NorthernLightFX are authorized Shure dealers, I let my bosses know by e-mail.

I'm still looking for an original V15 Type V body from the 80s, actually. But I'm sure the price will go up on that one also.

I'm not totally set to believe that Shure's dropping the project idea totally. I'm hoping for a new improvement and a review fit for its expectations.

If they're indeed just shaving off the top end of their product line, they'll be leaving a big hole wide open for someone else to fill.

This has seriously pissed me off .

I just got off the phone with Shure. They are indeed discontinuing the V15VxMR :realmad: However, the guy couldn't tell me any more, because I was not a dealer, but I was rather angry and pushed him a bit. I got the distinct feeling that it will be replaced with the next generation V15 cartridge. The V15 has been around a long time, and has gone through many revisions. He told me that dealers would be getting a bulletin in a few weeks, that will state what is going to happen.

Lets keep our fingers crossed guys (and gals)!

The needles are still in production. As long as we have our carts we can still use them and replace the needles, or am I wrong? Sckott, anyone?

I heard that V15VxMR was reissued after strong popular request. It seems me one of few cartridges with high-rez sound with stylus replacing at good price. now styli are in production but for what time? older v15III (original!) styli are still in disponition or sooner or later we must go moving coil?

You guys are getting all in a huff about nothing. They are indeed revamping the cartridge. It's a safe bet it will be an improvement as every new generation of V15 has surpassed the previous one.

The stylus remains in production for the foreseeable future. You'd think people would be happy that Shure is still improving on a dead medium.

Heh. I certainly wasn't slamming vinyl, just the fact a mainstream company probably views it that way.

By the way, Shure made a cd player at one point.
