You should. The extended edition of World Peace, California Son and Low in High School in that order.
I have Years of Refusal - California Son is the third one I don't have along with World Peace & Low In High School. We shall see how I get along with those three...
Children In Pieces - better than average. A high 3.5/5. This came on my Pandora yesterday and it was listed as Children On Pieces. Entering a new era indeed.
I like Children in Pieces (which means, I like the music, as I wasn't paying particular attention to the lyrics, as usual). I'll give it a high 3/5, i. e., it's closer to 3.5 than to 3
A solid B-side. It continues on the themes of "The Headmaster Ritual" and "Barbarism Begins at Home," and while it's obviously not as good as those two, I do still quite like it. 3.5/5 for "Children in Pieces."
Today’s song is My Dearest Love: Again, it was good to have Morrissey working with a new face as Gustavo Santaolalla was involved in the production of this one. It would certainly have been good enough to be included on a studio album and has quite an epic sound to it. The lyrics are mature as well, and this has deservedly become a fan favourite. This thread is teaching me just how many strong deep cuts Morrissey has throughout his career. 4/5.
Children In Pieces Listened to this the other day and I quite like it. Decent rocky tune, strange but sometimes humorous/ damning lyrics. Nothing amazing but not horrible. 3/5 My Dearest Love Haunting piano-led intro and a cracking foreboding tune throughout. Some great lyricsand almost subdued vocals make it one of my favourites of this period. 4/5
"My Dearest Love" Superb stuff - better than most of Refusal for me. Morrissey on top form again vocally, hypnotic backing track - I'm going with 4/5 for now but that may go up as I begin to listen to Swords.
My Dearest Love. Don’t like how it starts out sounding like EMF’s Unbelievable, but it recovers nicely. 3.5/5.
This is from the Refusal sessions, is it? Or was it recorded earlier? Anyway, I've always really liked it... though it comes perilously close to reminding me of EMF's Unbelievable at times. Despite this, for the strong lyric and immense vocal ("I have hung on, hung on, hung on for one hundred years...") I'll give it 4.5/5.
Well, out timeline is obviously a bit messed up here due to the fact that That's How People Grow Up and All You Need is Me were included on the Greatest Hits album... I think My Dearest Love and Children in Pieces were recorded a few months before most of the Refusal album though.
If I remember correctly, this was solidly in the top 100 on the M-solo Forum; which was the biggest surprise of the whole tournament for me. I'll give "My Dearest Love" a 3.5/5. It's certainly good, but I don't quite view it as affectionately as others.
Today’s song is Drive-In Saturday: More confirmation of just how much Morrissey had improved as a vocalist by this point. He really dominates this one and the small lyrical adjustments also help to make it a worthwhile listen. A much more effective live cover than most that he’d attempted up to this point. 4/5.
Drive-in Saturday A truly excellent cover of a truly excellent song; even more impressive that it’s live. 4.5/5
