Can't wait for this release. One of the best albums of the 1980s, and ever (although I actually prefer Meat is Murder to TQID, primarily because TQID has been overplayed to death). If they released the full Rank show (audio and video), that would've made it even better.

Maybe this will be the beginnings of a new reissue campaign, and Rank will be released separately with its own DVD.

It's two gatefold double LPs and one non-gatefold single LP according to Amazon. The live LP will be 2 LPs and, presumably, the demos/b-sides will be 2 LPs as I don't see them spreading the album proper over two records. We'll know for sure soon enough!

This album is in my wishlist since a long while (never heard it before, just thought the album cover is kinda amazing^^). Let me know if the remaster is good and I'll take a look at this new box set then.

    Amazon U.K. says
"5LP Vinyl Boxset - Includes all the equivalent tracks from CDs 1, 2 and 3, housed in lift off box with 2 double gatefolds and 1 single."

gatefold 1 = album lp and demo lp
    Gatefold 2 = 2LP live album
    Single = the 4 b sides

do you have any other smiths albums? if not, stream or get yourself the sound of the smiths anthology, and if you like what you're hearing try to find a used copy of the 2011 complete box. it's far better value than this rather inconsequential set, and a great way to own one of the finest discographies in all of pop music

Someone at SDE posted the full setlist for that show... they've cut six songs for this deluxe edition! And also rearranged the track order. Seeing as most Smiths songs struggle to pass the three-minute mark, the entire show could likely have fit on one disc.

the more info that comes out about this SDE, the more it seems like a huge missed opportunity.

Someone mentioned - either upthread or on another forum - that this was likely recorded by Grant Showbiz from the board to cassette and that he wasn't always diligent about flipping the tapes in time to make sure songs weren't cut off.

The complete show circulates in poor quality on the So This is America boot.

I'd aver that the fact that The Smiths are finally opening the vaults is cause for celebration. Offering all of the audio on vinyl is a nice touch.

Thanks, man. To be honest, previously I only knew the band's name, Morrissey and that Queen Is Dead album cover.^^
Maybe I heard one or two songs by them on the radio over the years. I'd better grab that compilation of them soon.

That's an audience recording of a show in Mansfield, MA, the Irvine Meadows in this deluxe release is the only show to circulate from that US tour that isn't from an audience tape.

Where did you get the info about a 7" being included?
Amazon lists 2 double LPs and one single LP.

I don't like responding negatively every time a new deluxe edition is announced. And I'm excited about this one on the strength of the demos disc alone. I'll definitely get it! But I am genuinely curious as to why the show was cut. The Grant Showbiz theory is an interesting one! :) FWIW, for the person who asked up thread, here's what's included on the deluxe compared to the original setlist. The songs cut are Still Ill, Frankly Mr. Shankly, Panic, Money Changes Everything, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now and Bigmouth Strikes Again. The "Grant didn't flip the tapes in time" theory sort of falls apart when you consider that I Know It's Over is intact on the deluxe edition but songs on both sides of it are not:

    Deluxe Edition track list:
    1. How Soon Is Now?
    2. Hand In Glove
    3. I Want The One I Can't Have
    4. Never Had No One Ever
    5. Stretch Out And Wait
    6. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side
    7. Cemetry Gates
    8. Rubber Ring/What She Said/Rubber Ring
    9. Is It Really So Strange?
    10. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
    11. That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore
    12. The Queen Is Dead
    13. I Know It's Over
