Agreed. It seems that John Denver is more respected now than he was still alive. Mama Cass was always respected, I think. Yes, two greats.
yes once they are gone it's a new awakening to their music for many...dedicated fans always felt the same...
I think you´re right. John Denver´s persona and image got in the way of the appreciation for his music. Now that´s no longer a problem. A pity he had to die before he was appreciated - by more than his fans. (And I know there were plenty.)
Bryan Adams - Teacher, Teacher He's a decent songwriter but his version sucks compared to .38 Special same goes for his version of When The Night Comes. Joe Cocker's version sounds much better.
Bus Stop is one of my favorite Gouldman compositions. To hear Gouldman perform it with just an acoustic guitar and one voice you can hear the great marriage of melody, lyrics, and chords. So when The Hollies had Allan Clarke’s great lead vocal with superb harmonies from Nash and Hicks, Hicks great guitar work, etc. it was the icing on an already impressive cake.
one of my favs is Jim Croce...I still listen to him often and wish he was still with us...a real "human"...
I had to suffer through the only cassette album my sister got along with her first stereo system - "I WANT TO LIVE". I used to hate it! I grew to love it and John Denver in general, while my sister forgot all about poor old John Denver.
Yeah... Like mould. No, I really came to love "I WANT TO LIVE", and I still think of it as one of the overlooked albums. Not underrated, but under-discovered. It´s a grower. I love all the albums up to "SEASONS OF THE HEART", and most of the later albums have gems hidden in the tracklist. But I suppose "POEMS, PRAYERS AND PROMISES" remain my favourite song, with "I´D RATHER BE A COWBOY" close behind.
Joe Hill Louis - 'Tiger Man' first recorded by Rufus Thomas; later performed by Elvis on 1968 TV special
This isn't the whole song, but here's an extract of the original demo of Especially for You (was a hit for Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan) with Mike Stock singing the male vocal lines.
