    'Fever' - Eddie Cooley

He had the original idea for the song 'Fever' which his friend Otis Blackwell (as "John Davenport") finished. He later recorded a version for the 1961 LP 'We Wrote 'em, and We Sing 'em'. I just read today that Eddie passed away in April on his 87th birthday.

He had one hit as an artist; 'Priscilla' (Billboard #20; 1956)

'I'm a Man' - Mort Shuman; a 1959 single recorded when Mort & Doc Pomus were in the UK at the invitation of the TV producer Jack Good. The two Pomus / Shuman songs had been written with Elvis in mind, but had recently been hits in the US (but not in the UK) for Fabian

with Joe Brown on guitar (Joe's first single was released on Decca at the same time with two Pomus / Shuman songs 'People Gotta Talk b/w Comes the Day')

'Turn Me Loose' (the B-side of 'I'm a Man)

'Paradise' - Harry Nilsson (1971 recording)

The Shangri-Las had the first released version in 1966 on the B-side of 'Past, Present, and Future' with Nilsson credited as the sole writer; Phil Spector's name was added as co-writer when the previously recorded version by the Ronettes was issued in the 70s; some time later Perry Botkin Jr. and Gil Garfield were also added to the credits

I recently scored the CD of this amazing, rare compilation from eBay:

Number One With A Bullet (1988)

1 Marti Jones - Walk Like An Egyptian
2 Brock Walsh And Mark Goldenberg - Automatic
3 Jon Lind - Crazy For You
4 Dennis Lambert And Franne Golde - Nightshift
5 Martin Page - We Built This City (Part 1)
6 Tom Kelly And Billy Steinberg - True Colors
7 Bobby Caldwell - Next Time (I Fall In Love)
8 Boy Meets Girl - I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)
9 Arnold McCuller - Neutron Dance
10 Tom Kelly And Billy Steinberg - So Emotional

All of the tracks, with the exceptions of 1 and 9, are performed by the songwriter(s), or at least one of the co-writers. All tracks are considered to be original demos.

    The liner notes state:

This album is an ode to the songwriter. The reason for this collection: to shed a light on non-artist songwriters.

Lots of great, interesting material to be heard here.
