Obviously a much different movie than the 2016 release.. but with Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. What's the story behind this remake?
Not a remake but a complete re-boot according to Gunn. Toss the first movie into the dumpster. The Suicide Squad (film) - Wikipedia
I just watched Birds of Prey last night. Painful. I was really looking forward to watching it too. That trailer looks great for Suicide Squad. There’s hope!
I’m looking forward to this. I thought the 2016 film was spectacular. David Ayer is my favourite director and screen writer.
The internet loves him already. The Suicide Squad Fans are Losing it Over Sylvester Stallone's Cute King Shark My understanding is that the current comics incarnation of this character is a hammerhead shark (although the original pre-New 52 version was apparently a great white, as in this film version). Gunn explained on Twitter why they went with this particular look: https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1375856041045319680 https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1375856738147069954 https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1375866870209777666 Oh, and the voice actor? Sylvester Stallone. https://twitter.com/JamesGunn/status/1375869723653513217
Well, not exactly. The Suicide Squad: James Gunn On How It Relates To David Ayer’s Film, And Why It’s Different From Guardians – Exclusive Images So, Gunn's view appears to be not quite "throw it out" but certainly not his making a part two or sequel.
Quite a few “jokes” in that trailer and not one funny. The trailer is supposed to sell you on seeing the film but it did the opposite for me.
Sylvester The Shark looks funny, the rest looks like same old same old. The Harley Quinn character bugs the Eff outta me. This looks like The Boys featuring DC characters.
Review embargo has been lifted. This movie is getting amazing positive reviews. It is currently a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 70 reviews. Looking forward to seeing James Gunn doing a R-rated movie, with more action violence and adult language than the Guardians movies. This movie is getting a day and date release on HBO Max, but I am tempted to see this in an IMAX theater. The entire film was shot in IMAX. IMDB lists this film as being in 1.90 : 1 aspect ratio, not the full square IMAX image.
Looks way better than the first one. Mind you seeing the finished product could suggest a different opinion. Just checked IMDb user reviews looks like industry yeah -yeah - yeahs high ratings with a couple of stinker ratings reviews. Hmmm. Watched other trailer. Not quite convinced. Whats the Guardian Of The Galaxy guy doing in it ?
I liked the trailer I saw. Love that the DC movies usually feel like one creator's vision and don't have the same homogenized style and tone of most of the MCU movies.
David Ayer posted a letter on Twitter today concerning his unreleased director's cut of Suicide Squad. I cannot understand why WB does not apparently want to release this cut. Director's cuts stopped being an uncommon thing decades ago. https://twitter.com/DavidAyerMovies/status/1420826069939023882
I would guess the Warner execs are still salty over the Snyder cut being a hit, but I dunno if the same people that bogged down the original cut are still around.
They can't seem to figure out whether they want to go with the Snyderverse or not. They seem to talk it down but then they seem to re-use his cast, like J. K. Simmons just announced for Gordon in Batgirl. I'm curious to see if we find out sales figures on the Snyder cut discs when they come out this month in the U.S. If they're good, maybe that will convince them the Ayer Cut is worth putting out on HBO Max and disc. Also. next year, presumably the day-and-date movie releases will stop on HBO Max, so they'd be wise to have the Ayer cut ready next year as an inducement for subscribers. Apparently the Ayer cut contingent is organizing a big Twitter campaign on August 5th, trying to repeat the success of the Snyder cut campaign.
