use 12 for the arm, it includes the oem head shell Cartridge and compliance (static) are good The AT static compliance is 20 ? Or is there a conversion? Looks likes units are equivalent, 20 Head shell ~ 11- 7.6 = 3.4 (the difference)
I used dynamic at 16 x 1.6. Tonearm at 9.1 per a Hi-Fi News published spec and Audio Technica confirmation. Headshell is AT-LH11H at 11 grams.
Do you have a link to the hifi news spec? The only thing I can find is forum stuff and an old Technics manual 12 gm. Why not use the AT spec? 20 static
First thing I could find in writing 8 to 9 gm https://oslohificenter.no/analog/pl...Product-ExternalReviews.OHC-PageLink-FileLink this also says 9 gm Technics SL-1200GR / SL-1210GR Turntable Review - Audio Appraisal
When I use Mass = 9 + 6.4 (cart) + 2.4 (head shell delta) 18 assumed with hardware. 1.75 x 10 (100 Hz compliance, range 1.5-2)
With this info did my calculation make sense? I was also told to use dynamic of 16 and convert at 1.6. It seems like my calculation does conform to what some folks at AT said resonance peak would be.
This exactly matches my calculation so maybe it’s all good? Well not exactly my calculation came up with 4.8 resonance peak.
Anyone using a Nagaoka MP-500 on their 1200? Been thinking about picking one up when I send in my Zu DL-103r to get retipped and saving the Zu for more occasional use in the future. I'm hesitant to go from MC to MM - I wouldn't want to spend almost $1k and have it feel like a step down. But the idea of replaceable styli is alluring...
I feel like the MP-200 will be more than good enough. I use it on my GR, and it seems like many people who move up from the 200 to the 300 or 500 end up missing the 200 a bit. With that said, I can only speak for the MP-200: No fuss, plug and play, sounds great.
Congrats. If it arrives and it's made in Malaysia, please post back with a quick review. There have been no reports on the Malaysian GR's. Thanks.
Will do.. I have zero concerns about where it's built.. I'm sure it will be no different than the MiJ units but will absolutely report back if it arrives..
I also have the Nagaoka MP-200 on my 1200GR. I’m not into critical listening but think it sounds really good.
Nope, it was my first cartridge, so I used the stock headshell. With pre-mount I would worry about blaming it for everything that sounds off. I feel like the technics overhang gauge makes things easy enough as is. I'm sure things can get even better with a protractor. With plug and play, I meant that the cartridge is not really fussy about alignment. Then again, if I remember correctly the stylus is fairly huge by elliptical standards.
