The 'truth'? Defined by who? You, him, me? There is no truth involved. Judging and condemning the actions of others does no good. Just move on. What craps a thread up is this pious BS. Or where stuff is made. Not interesting technical info on TT workings or cartridge response.
I do not care why you are doing it. But you are judging and foisting your opinion on others. And telling them what to do. And you don't even realize you are in the wrong. THIS exchange craps the thread up. And you started it. Ponder that and move on. I'll do the same. Thanks It depends on your definition of 'general' how many posts like this do we need? Look at my shiny new thing Which thing should I get What do you think about cables ??? But I don't care, I gloss over them. I do not tell them it's in the wrong place, or silly, or boorish. Good Lord, a little thoughtful content is verboten
The name of the thread is "The Technics SL-1200GAE/G/GR General Questions." Do you really think that the in depth measurements you post qualify as general? I already know you're going to say yes. But I'd wager about 85-90% of the people in this thread do not think they are. And that's the thing, I appreciate the science. I really do. I just don't understand your reluctance to create a new thread called "The Technics SL-1200GAE/G/GR In-Depth Measurements and Technical Talk."
I do not understand you insistence that I comply with your directives. The mods can do as they please. That is how it works. There are more than a few that post interesting stuff. I think you should start a new thread: I like to tell others what to post and where to post it.
You are really crapping this thread up with your personal attacks against members who like technical content. If the 'generalities' haven't been covered in 400+ pages and 10,000+ posts they never will be. Perhaps that is why it's not as 'general' as you would like. It evolved, it had to, all has been said before. Relax Enjoy
The truth as in what you're doing, you're too intelligent not to know. This thread does belong to you, but it also belongs to me, and all who post here. Your knowledge is impressive, but is that level really needed on a general discussion thread? Are your talents wasted here? While not the only one, you have carried some subjects a bit too long? IMO, Natch. As mentioned upstream, it might be more rewarding for all to initiate a thread dealing with the more clinical side of vinyl reproduction? Could be more challenging for you and depending on your thread title, more traffic? But please, whatever you decide, don't stop posting here!
Ironic that you’re telling me to relax, when you’re taking my valid criticism and helpful advice and claiming they are personal attacks on you and others. I’m curious, do you measure your responses before posting or do you just shoot from the hip?
Please explain it to me in little words. Do not demean me by implying I know the 'truth' and am being disingenuous. What am I 'doing'? That is exactly what I said, no one owns this thread, equall access to all, as long as forum rules are complied with.
You say they are valid. Others may disagree. They are unsolicited, but ANYONE, including me has the right to spout off. You are lecturing me (and others) about posting technical stuff about TT's, when your last 1/2 posts have NOTHING to do with TT's. The irony is not lost on me. How about you? simmer down It's all good btw: that insipid crap about 'measure' my posts and hip shooting is a personal attack. relax It's ok to be wrong
The name of the thread is "The Technics SL-1200GAE/G/GR General Questions." It is not "I get determine what I feel is appropriate for others to discuss." Better suited for OT. I'm going to do my workout. I'll be anticipating your response with bated breath. Until then: my GR/540 ML room response. CBS STR 100 sweep.
It's all good a 'for instance' You post about a: 1200G, very small % of Technics owners A rare vintage tonearm, even less An exotic cartridge The combination? Perhaps a 'one off'? (Very nice btw) But 'unique', not 'general' I read it, might have 'liked' it (?), as much for the effort/skill as the content. It's not a path I'll travel, but good for you. Did I reply? 'That's too specific' 'People aren't interested in stuff they'll never own' 'That won't help anyone' No, I appreciated for what it was and moved on.
The truth being this is not your first experience on this thread asking you to stop. Of course, you are not the only one. Usually it goes on for pages longer, but I'm guessing the complaints are due to it becoming cumulative? I do know if I see a thread you've started, I will not click on it. However, I bet many would revel in participating in one of your threads! Anyhoo, I am not enjoying our interaction, no need for this.
A picture of a 1200G is about as general as you can get. And yes, it features a non-stock tonearm. But doesn’t showing a 1200G with a different tonearm sorta answer the very general question of if you can put other tonearms on the table? Hmm, I believe it does.
@Erocka2000, just to change the subject, what is the height of the Auditorium 23 Hommage mat and where did you buy it from? Have you tried any other record mats on the Technics? Everybody says that this is the first thing that you should change on 1200G. I am still using the stock mat on mine after many years and I can't complain, although sometimes I am wondering what I might be missing.
I don't care if people ask me to stop. But I will see if that is accurate. In return, I will not ask people to stop. They can do as they please. I do not post things for peer approval: Ask a question Share something Answer a question, dig out the manual, etc. I try to be helpful, others will decide if I am. Some may, some won't. Either way, I don't care, this is for fun. 20 pages on where they are made and the people making them is good?
That was answered several dozen times in the first 100 pages or 2500 posts. Some by you. And no, not general, 1/1,000,000. Again, I did not comment, it was an example. Why? I do not care what you do, that is YOUR business. Leave me and others to ours, Thanks Peace
I don’t have calipers so I can’t give an exact measurement, but it’s about 3mm. It was almost the exact same height as the stock Technics 1200G mat. I got lucky and was able to win it on a bid on eBay for about 50% of retail. The only other mat I tried was the stock mat, which was decent. But the A23 is much more balanced and doesn’t have any static issues like the stock one can sometimes have.
I get your point, it's not about the repetiveimess, it's about interest. I mean, come on.... squeaky rubber on the arm lift??? I guess it's a comment on how good the tables are if that's your complaint. But then: How nany pages on a user's non existant hum did we use? And a few tech squabbles that went on for many pages! Multiple times. But yeah, the MIJ vs MIM crap went on way too long and got creepy, but... no graphs!!!
I've learned there's really a place for both, as an engineer by degree / trade and an artist by choice / night, it's really great to hear all viewpoints and sides.
Honestly, I seldom take issue with a post. Squeaky rubber, lol, ok Oil a motor bearing: I post the manual, it does not reference under maintenance. It's likely to be oiled anyways. Lol Just skip them Let people be A recent one: SL1200(?) warped platter! The OP checks it 3 pages later, it's the lp. I give him credit for digging and letting us know the outcome. No big deal. Just let it flow
You and Slick are two of my favorite board members - and if we were having a beer right now I bet we'd be laughing...
There are more than a few of you I'd like to meet, you for sure. Even ones I've had 'tension' with, usually my fault, wife will verify that. Lol I harbor 0 I'll will, they don't care, it only hurts me. Pointless. @csgreene is one So is @Doctor Fine And especially @JP @Slick Willie too, as long as he doesn't bust my 'nads TOO much, lolp It would be great to have a get together at each other's place and have some of you experts evaluate our systems. I think mine is great, but it would be nice to hear others opinion, especially those with better systems, better ears and more experience. The feedback would be awesome.
