    Just a simple remark
When i got my "G" (before i return it) i compare my great old 1989 SL 1200 Mk2 and the G.
One thing was very interesting... the light and if you can do this you will notice how "cheap feeling" it was on the G.
The light rose up suddenly and not gradually and smoothly like the MK2 light...
    Even the touch was different

Not in my case, it just moves up nice and smooth, just like a properly serviced MK2 light (old ones pop up like they're spring loaded nail guns lol).

I never had one of those stickers on my MIJ GR, either that or I removed it immediately and just don't remember...

It IS cheap, likely cost a few cents?
    How does something feel 'cheap'?

Once it starts moving 3.5 sec for mine.

You should try out the popup light of an Audio Technica AT-LP120, Reloop RP-2000MK3 or similar.
You'll know it when you feel it.

I don't think that popup light assembly is just a few cents.
Looks quite complicated, for just a popup light.

I mean, there are definitely ways to make it way simpler and cheaper, like on those Hanpin decks and even the SL-1200MK7.

I agree... the pop-up light on my GAE feels robust and smooth.

Ole, do you have a picture of the top side of the rubber base? ..As I've mentioned before in this thread (wayyy back), the seam b/w the top aluminum plate and the bottom rubber base bulges out about 1-2mm in places. ..I'm curious - and hope to glean from the picture - If I loosened the screws holding the top plate and rubber base together can I maybe smooth the seam with my thumb then re-tighten. ...It's a tiny flaw that few (if any) others would notice or care about.

I guess a $1600 TT might cost $600 to make.
Profit for Technics and the dealer are at least 30% each.
Labor and OH are much of that.
    So what's left for parts?
You'd be surprised at what a part costs when buying 1,000's and the supplier is tooled up and wants to keep the doors open.

It is the same part regardless where the TT is made.

Afaik there's some grease inside the target light mechanism that makes it rise slowly. When gone or "misplaced" it shoots up fast. On my tt it went from slow to fast and back to slow. Could be ambient temperature changes affect it in some cases, so a possible fix would be a reasonable application of hairdryer heat with the tt upside down. Or new grease.

Nope, sorry, that one I just posted is the only one I could find in a decent resolution.

I believe MF visited the Technics booth at highend München or CES and showed in his video a lot of the parts that were on display.

The griping about insignificant things (I'm not exempt) is not healthy imo. In the spirit of the Holidays I'll share something poignant I read on this forum.

We recently lost a long time member, cancer.
This story was related by another member.
He knew for a year that things were not looking good.

Recently (likely shortly before he left us) he made a post. He was excited about receiving a new 'Dead CD. Yet his thought was to wait for his wife to come home to share (the small to us) but special event of opening it with her.
    Think about that.
A man of finite time doing that.
The love, the heart and soul of that.

Actions like that make me ashamed of some of mine. That is only one example.
Treasure every day, be thankful for even the flawed things in your life.

I pray I can be more like that, like him.

It's just a feeling but the MK2's pop-up light seemed to be more robust...but it was just my feeling...
I hope (if i buy a GR) it will be different...

I just boil a big pot of water, doesn’t help a ton but better.

Not sure if I was misunderstood but I meant this kind of cover.

Unfortunately it’s not that easy, we aren’t all cut from the same cloth.

If we could all think the same way, it would be a perfect world.

well, in my case, I'm afraid it is.
I usually know the right thing to do.
But at times I don't do it, either it's too hard, the other way is easier or benefits me more,
    selfish.

As I age, I think I'm getting better.
    It's like a race, don't die an @$$hole, lol.

Ah yeah I thought you meant the acrylic dustcover.
I don't like putting things on top of the dustcover, so that's not for me.
I've seen so many dustcovers with swirlmarks and damage from accidents that I've become quite careful with them.

That's why you should buy a spare dustcover and keep it (or the original) boxed. It's not expensive.

I'd like a tinted dustcover for my SL1200GR.

You can find them on eBay and elsewhere pretty reasonable. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but came close.
