And another one that barely grazed the UK charts but the only hit of the 80s by my favourite band of the era, sadly a cover version. In fact they had already broken up by the time this was a hit.
As in the famous quote from Benny Hill's Kojak parody (as Stavros): "I think I know what he met-a-phor" (met her for).
Did it ever. Don't get me started on Dangerous! You're totally right about MJ's tinkering. I just read that he started recording Bad in January 1985.
Small wonder it came across as plastic, processed, artificial, pre-programmed, calculated, and full of itself.
Only 14 songs on Dangerous but the album is knocking on for 80 minutes. You know something ain’t right. A handful of standouts on the album though. And dear old Heal The World lasted for a third of the running time.
Two and half years to record Bad. Prince probably knocked out 3 albums in that time Seemed to be a thing in the 80's for some artists- Tears For Fears waited four years to release the follow up to Songs From The Big Chair
There seem to be contibutors that cannot read. But since you apparently can.. yes. Is there a war crimes thread?
'Jack Your Body' sounds surprisingly great. I just played it and think I enjoyed it more than I did back in 1987. I also realised within seconds that SAW shamelessly ripped it off for 'Respectable'.
I got a CD of the album last year for a couple of quid...seller said it might be trashed so was almost giving it away. Played fine! Right On Track is obviously the standout but it's a pleasant listen. EG.
Didn't NME have some rule preventing it from reaching the top, given "C'est La Vie" making #1 on that chart and only on that chart?
It dates from early summer 1986 (I had it on a comp called Upfront...a short-lived rival to Streetsounds) so, yes, SAW would have had plenty of time to be inspired by it! EG.
Interesting thought......could easily be so......after all, that way the time when sampling was still like uncharted waters.....
Was reading an old Music Week from late 1986 the other week and the label were rather optimistically taking orders for the "new TFF" due in February 1987! EG.
Yes......you would think it was pretty unexpected that a little known Austrian singer (at that time) inspired them to do a cover. Falco really was one of a kind. His early style was quite unusual half-singing / half-rapping, but he showed he could properly sing afterwards.
Yes.....but they didnt go completely off the radar during that time.......well, at least one half of them.....or two, depending on if you count Ian Stanley as a legitimate member of the band, which at that time he certainly was......
