According to their book the show on the 22nd february at the Fillmore West was recorded, as was the following two nights at the Winterland, engineered by Bill Halverson. If it did happen, my fantasy is that Bill has some mixdowns lying about somewhere, as he did for the Cream shows later in the year

I was expecting an A4 sized book so was surprised to get a paperback - but I'm really enjoying reading it :righton:

Huh, didn't know a paperback existed. Mine is a big hardcover coffee-table sized book.

FWIW, the shows were at The Fillmore, not Fillmore West. Fillmore West didn't open until July.

It appears to be the other way round, least amazon.co.uk says that the hardback is 'A completely revised and updated edition' whereas the paperback doesn't have that in its description

I have the original hardback with a 2002 publication date, and a smaller sized paperback with 2005 and 2009 dates, containing an additional Neil & Kent introduction dated 2005 acknowledging the revised edition.

I don’t know if there’s also a hardcover edition of the revised edition. There may be a Barnes & Noble version, or a UK vs US publisher thing.

There was the large hardback in 2002, then in 2003 they released a large paperback (almost a cardboard back) that was a revised edition. The smaller paperback version came out years later, I believe.

  11. What's happening with the release of more Pete Townshend demos? There has been reports made in the last year (or more) about pending releases but I have heard nothing on this front. The only release includes a handful of demos from 1965 for the My Generation box set. This is good but who does knows anything else?

I managed to get a copy of the large hardcover printing and have to say I'm really impressed - both with the information contained therein but also with the great photos they dug up for the book

If I had my pick of a "new" release from the who it would be more unreleased Pete demos - they are awesome.

"Bob Sings Soul" did still exist as of March 2009. Bob Pridden met with the team making the Lambert & Stamp documentary that month to look for studio chatter from Kit. They auditioned some tapes (including at least one of the August 6/7, 1967 tapes from Mirasound in NYC), and discovered it there.

Pete did not have Bob in mind when he wrote the music for it, and the song was originally called something along the lines of "Ellie Umbrellas", which suggests that it may have started life as a possible commercial for the album. Aside from that, it is common knowledge that the track features the entire band plus Al Kooper on organ, and Bob doing his trademark "rooty-doo-ty-doo" over it.

It turned out "horrible" according to Bob, but his "war cry" (as he calls it himself) still made it to both the final verse of "Tattoo" and Small Faces' "Lazy Sunday".

OK, I like photos/art that tell a story or mean something but I am drawing a blank on that one.

Pete is sewing a map from what I can tell. But what does that "mean"?
