Evan Dando's lyrics could be great--but not in Being Around: If I was a booger, would you blow your nose? Would you keep it? would you eat it? I'm just tryin to give myself a reason, for being around.
Five to one, baby One in five No one here gets out alive... OK, not worst or even bad lyrics. Pretty vivid imagery, in fact. But it simply does not compute. Can't help but think when I hear it: five to one is one in six.
You wind up playing some role (or roles) (in the acting sense) in the world. People build identities and will often moderate their behavior, their dispositions, etc. to fit the role(s) they've created. "Out on loan" emphasizes the idea of "thrownness" a la Heidegger, which Morrison very literally invokes.
It's the "no man is an island" and/or "it takes a village" idea. Personalities, behavior, actions don't happen in a vacuum. They're strongly influenced by if not simply an upshot of culture/society overall.
I can't believe we are picking on McCartney and Billy Joel, when gems like Gucci Gang by Lil Pump or Friday by Rebecca Black exist.
Genius minimalism (much like The Ramones first album) misunderstood by squares and 'critics' as being moronic.
That's the worst indeed. I mean, how come the whole song be just that? John Lennon and Paul McCartney shouldn't even be considered songwriters to start with. This is another proof that The Beatles were just a fraud, a marketing scam. Ironic mode off now. .
They're the first band I thought of. "Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball". And many others. "Be Here Now" is full of terrible lyrics. I always cringe when I hear "A Horse With No Name".
Don't look any further. We're talking about a band that had a line going "the fool on the hill and I feel fine" on a big comeback single, to which Liam answered, "so what? These are just words".
Noel also once said "cow rhymes with now, I'm having it!" when talking about writing lyrics. Nobody listens to Oasis for deep and thoughtful lyrics, a nonsense singalong has it's place. The absolute piffle Jon Anderson often wrote has no more meaning than Oasis songs do.
