The colored vinyl of Orc sold out FAST on Castle Face earlier today. I went CD, like always...but there were some cool colors for this album.
Oh Lawdy, another new album! Oh Sees change name (again) to OCS for new album Memory of a Cut Off Head, share title track: Stream
Sweet!!! Between these guys and King Gizzy I can barely keep up! Edit: Just listened to the track....is Brigid Dawson back???
Preorder upcoming album here: Memory Of A Cut Off Head, by OCS Castleface will also have orders available, likely a few days before it is released.
Playing it now. A very mellow offering from OCS. I like it though - it’s nice to hear a different side to them.
Where from? Kinda curious that Castle Face hasn't put up a preorder... I'm enjoying it quite a bit! Nice mixture of folky stuff and strings, and I think it sounds great.
I haven't heard it yet (besides a couple of singles), but I have it preordered from Rough Trade. I'ma hold off until it arrives in the mail. Really lookin forward to it. And yeah....I've been monitoring Castle Face and still nothing at their end. Maybe after the way King Gizzy released Poly, John's like....whatever... someone else can press it....
OCS - Memory of a Cut Off Head | Castle Face Records A few days late, but better than never. Cool pressings.
Nice! Managed to score the pink smoke version. Although the silkscreen looks cooler on the grape roll-up version. I couldn't wait longer, so I've given this a few listens. I like it quite bit. Even though it's all relatively hushed and laid back, there's a lot of variety across the album, from simple folky strummers to more... stately (?) stuff with strings, harpsichords, and of course the singing saw. Cool album!
John Dwyer article in today’s Guardian Leather daddies and jazz: a beginner's guide to garage-rock hero John Dwyer
Nice dude! I was impatient and preordered the Rough Trade version (baby pink I think), but the Castleface versions look sweet...especially the one you snagged I cant wait to see that beautiful silkscreen! And I really like what I've heard so far. You've got me pumped to hear the rest!
Nice find dude. On a similar note, he was recently a guest on Marc Maron's WFT Podcast. The snippets I've seen are pretty interesting.
I'm really digging the vibe on the OCS record. I hate to say it, but I think I might even like Brigid's songs the best!
i much prefer Dwyer stuff when he goes into this wider territory of poppy , folky acoustic , oddball , original songs than the "in your face" psyche Krautrock approach . very good record
I love it all, but I think the Damaged Bug stuff and An Odd Entrances are great examples of stuff that's a little different from the mainline Oh Sees stuff....
Heh, the "in your face" psych Krautrock stuff is what won me over to Dwyer in the first place, can't get enough of that. Though the other end of his sound has grown on me, even the new one - a second spin really opened up the first half for me, particularly Dwyer's songs.
I've been going a bit mental recently filling in a few gaps in my collection. Bought: Moon Sick 12" Single Collection Volume 1 + 2 Singles Collection Volume 3 Sucks Blood And the new 12"
