Finally getting into Memory of a Cut Off Head. Much more into Side A so far, like @GuidedByJonO))) Ha! I can do that now...
Saw them in London last night for the fourth time. Simply the best live band in the world. So much energy. Animated Violence destroyed me!
Been a big fan of theirs for 5-6 years and will finally see them in October.... can't freaking wait. Missing the Oh Sees + Ty tour due to work conflicts is one of my biggest regrets.
I love these guys. I do think they lost something when Brigid and Petey left but still put out some great albums afterwards. Favorite albums..Floating Coffin, Carrion Crawler, Mutilator Defeated at Last.
New song and album announced! Smote Reverser, released in August. This new song is really heavy with matching artwork to boot. Overthrown, by Oh Sees
Not in a position to play the new track yet, but if that cover art is any indication... well, this album could kick some serious butt. For those too busy to click-through:
As usual in the face of a new Dwyer release.......I'm super pumped for this!!!! Gonna try and catch them live in ATL later this year.
Nice dude. If you haven't seen them, they're really good live. By the way, I like your profile pic. Quarters is an awesome album.
I love it. They've seriously leapfrogged all of their contemporaries and are on a different level at this point.
Yeah, I'm still getting to know it, but this is one of their best yet in my book. There's a nice Sabbath vibe going on with the new album as well. At first I wasn't sure about the double drummer concept for this line up, but I'm really liking the way it's been shaping up with Orc and Smote Reverser. They've been exploring some wicked jazzy beats lately to go along with Dwyer's increasing mastery of his guitar sorcery. I'm impressed by his single-minded commitment to following his distinct sonic vision wherever it may lead, staying true to his core sound but diversifying.
Real question: Do you pronounce the name as "Thee Oh Sees" or "The OCs"? I've never heard anyone say it other than two Brits (both from Oxford), who used the latter pronunciation. Amazingly, I had no idea what they were talking about at first. "What are 'OCs'?" -E
I've said it once and I'll say it again.....Thee Oh Sees are the best band around right now. And I think they have been for at least a few years. They put on a damn good live show too
It's subtle, but think two words vs one, the space between "Oh" and "See" is audible in my mind. And the "Thee" is slightly longer (again, in my mind). I was just hilariously confused during the aforementioned conversations but what should be such a minor difference. -E
Of course, now they aren't even Thee Oh Sees*. But when they were, Thee clearly has the long E sound, and each word has an even accent. However, I think many people eventually call them just Oh Sees no matter which version of the band name John Dwyer is using. *in case anyone hasn't realized that they've been releasing recent albums as Oh Sees and OCS.
Of course, most English speakers use a long 'e' before a vowel anyway--so "thee English language," but "thuh Beatles" or whathaveyou...
