This guy is playing a copy of the first OKEH 78 I ever found. Miff Mole, 1927. Nice to see..

Not a wonderful sounding YouTube video but this guy is playing the very first OKEH 78 I ever bought (in High School at the 78 Record meet) for one dollar. The thrill of seeing the actual rare-as-hell 1927 Okeh Electric label going around on my turntable (after so many bad sounding LP reissues, etc.) was brought back to me as I blundered across this today.

You can't find this for a buck anymore but there are still 78 RPM inexpensive gems out there!

Do YOU have any video or photos of some of your prized 78's?

    Love that track!

Thought I'd heard it before and sure enough it's part of a 500 CD collection called World's Greatest Jazz Collection that I have. That track, and 19 others by Miff Mole's Molars, can be found on Disc 64 in the "Classic Jazz" section.

Dang, we have that box in the uni library. I've been meaning to borrow it out, piece by piece, one day.

Re the OP: awesome video and a fantastic find! And no, no 78s in my collection... yet.

Disc 21, same section, of the aforementioned 500 CD box set.

I've got them all ripped to my server so it's easy to look them up.

And, I'll stop doing this. This thread is about the 78s after all. :)

My brother inherited several boxes of 78s which I would very much love to properly listen to and digitize someday. I had a look through them a while back and there were several song titles in there that came up with no results when I googled them...

Delightful, thanks, Steve. I've always enjoyed the evocative names of some of the old jazz guys, "Miff Mole" being a favorite.

Collecting tip: . Unless you're rich, go for the 1940's UK Parlophone 78's of this stuff. They are pressed from the original New York metal stampers and cost instead of $150.00 -$1,000.00 a nice 10 dollars, clean. Same great sound

I've also found the Parlophone 78s usually sound pretty good too. Relatively low surface noise.

It's not my copy playing, but it is mine in the photo of the Jelly Roll Morton Trio with Turtle Twist backed by Smilin the Blues Away. Picked this one up at a thrift shop in an "album" of ten really great jazz and country 78 rpm records about 25 years ago. Maybe $3 or $5 for all of them.

    Love the Miff Mole recording!
