I haven’t seen a thread here on this U.K. independent label. They cover several genres and tend to release lesser-known albums of well-known artists or albums of lesser-known artists on CD. What are your experiences with this label? Do they release their own masters or reissue existing ones? Floating World Records Thanks!
I can't speak to the masters. But I have several and the sound is fine to me. Asleep at the Wheel, Doug Sahm, Charlie Daniels....multiple albums on 2 cd sets. Lotta bang for the buck.
I have a recent re-issue of "Spirit - Two Sides Of A Rainbow", plus "Michael Bruce - Anthology" from a few years ago. Both sound OK (not great). I don't have any clues regarding their "mastering" sources / process.
I have some CDs on Floating World Records and some from their prior company label Evangeline/Acadia Records. They all sound good to me: Acadia: Lothar And The Hand People - Space Hymn (The Complete Capitol Recordings) Joe Byrd & The Field Hippies - The American Metaphysical Circus Kaleidoscope - Pulsating Dream: The Epic Recordings Sons Of Champlin - The Best Of Cheap Trick - One On One/Next Position Please Floating World Records: Kaleidoscope - Pulsating Dream: The Epic Recordings Spirit - Time Circle: Time Circle (1968-1972)
The Spirit Time Circle 2CD set adds additional tracks that were not on the original 1991 Sony CD. The extra songs are not listed on the back insert or booklet either.
Same remixes though on the common tracks? Wondering if the extra songs are exclusive to the Floating World?
That, I don't know. I'm not a real knowledgeable of Spirit's catalog as well as the various remixes on Time Circle and the 1996 Sony CD reissues. Here's a thread that gives some more info about the Floating World, Spirit - Time Circle CD: Spirit (Band) Lead vocal question
For Preflyte Plus, they tried to pass off Gene Clark’s 1970 demo of ‘She’s the Kind of Girl’ as a 1964 recording.
My question about Floating World Records is, are their releases mechanically manufactured CDs or are they CDr's?
As far as I know they don’t do any remastering and are just basically reissuing OOP or hard to find titles.
Pretty sure I have a couple of their Mountain releases. Can't check, might trigger an avalanche. Until I get organized I am exploring the top of the pile.
