    Anyone else a fan of his train layout? He is much better at model railroading than he is music. If I were him, I would have hung it up decades ago and just focused on the trains.

    He was the Robert Plant of his time with the first two Jeff Beck albums.

    Crazy thing is that Rod was only 54 when they made him out to be like 90! :wtf:

    Saw the Stones in 72. It is still my greatest concert experience. Saw Rod and the Faces in 73 while Ronnie Lane was still in the band. It was my second best rock and roll show of that period. Many shows have surpassed Rod and the Faces in the intervening years, but nothing has EVER topped the Stones in 72.

    I'm sure I'm probably alone in this opinion but WTF. Hot Legs was the best (ballsiest) thing he has ever done!

    As much as I love Mac's book there are so many "stories" in it, the smashing of the "Steinmeg" piano for one, but pages have to be filled. I doubt the Billy Gaff comment too.
    It all made for a fun read, so what if much of it wasn't true.

    Donfrance As honest as a politician.

    Rod Stewart is simply a musician that has stamped his mark on musical history. How big his influences are and who he has inspired, not even mentioned. I'm not into everything he has done but I can't deny that the music of Rod Stewart has been present throughout my entire life.

    I know I'm an outlier on this, but I find The Mod's first two albums to only be So-So.

    An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down ---> So-So

    Gasoline Alley ---> So-So

    Every Picture Tells a Story ---> Great, the Best Rod Album

    Never a Dull Moment ---> a close 2nd Best Rod Album

    Smiler ---> Bad

    Atlantic Crossing ---> Good

    A Night on the Town ---> The Last Hurrah

    Foot Loose & Fancy Free ---> Has “I Was Only Joking” and “You’re in My Heart” the rest is rubbish

    Blondes Have More Fun ---> Awful

    Foolish Behaviour ---> Awful

    Over and Out
    for me with Rod at this point.

    Rarely has such talent been squandered so dramatically...

    Having Soulbook, any Songbook and Smiler on that list ahead of the likes of Out of order, Spanner in the works, Footloose or Tonight I'm yours....looks like a " put the first four mercury albums on top and draw lots for the rest" effort, which might fit with Lester Bangs quote devotees, but is not representative.

    The MOJO poll is representative of the opinion of those that voted. The first four were a given, personally I would have put Smiler at #5, couldn't care less about the rest.

    What makes Vol V so much more special than the other volumes. The only possible reason i can think of is that it was the last one.:sigh:

    Rod’s work from 1967 - 1975 is largely outstanding, and while his post-Faces work is maligned in varying degrees, he delivered a significant amount of first-rate recordings from 1975 - the late 1990’s. Even his recent original work, while not commercially viable, has been respectable.

    It is unreasonable for anyone to assert he should have continued creating Never A Dull Moment for 4+ decades. None of the other greats recycled their greatest work from their 20’s, they all had questionable diversions and ups and downs, but for some reason Rod is held to a different standard.

    Gonna have to agree with this. I don't care much for his take on the classics albums but love his 70 stuff (solo or with Beck or the Faces) , most of his stuff after. His voice is very unique and he's a great talent in opinion. Hot Legs is a great, fun song and My Heart Can't Tell Me Know is a heartbreaking ballad sung with conviction. One of my favorite guitarists is Joe Bonamasa and a title of one of his earliest releases was Blues Deluxe which Rod had a hand in writing the title track. So he's not only a great interpreter of songs but he can write as well.
