Where Are You? was recorded in April 1957, and the earliest Capitol multitrack recordings were not long before that in late 1956. Those were intended for the two-track reel-to-reel stereo tape market. Consumer stereo LPs were still at least a year away. Sinatra’s first stereo LP release was Sings for Only the Lonely, in late November 1958. See these Matt Lutthans (@MLutthans) web pages for more detail about early stereo at Capitol:

Welcome to the club Introduction Mono Stereo Final thoughts
    Where Are You? - 1957
Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely - 1958

BTW, sorry to not have answered sooner, but the following post shows which Sinatra albums had true stereo issues (i.e., those with SW- cat. no. prefixes):

Those Matt Lutthans links are pretty amazing -- thanks for posting those, Bob F. And hats off to Mr Lutthans for his generous work and careful judgment.

I'll second that! Fantastic information to read and use as a resource. It has enhanced my FS listening experience and drawn me to new versions and formats over the past few years.

I still come back to PONR a lot -- and "I'll Remember April" always just sends chills up and down my spine!

Just to clarify: the webpages about Point of no Return are still at 11fifty.com. Just the scorecard listing is down for that album.

Should Sinatra vinyl be shelved laying flat or standing up?

I have a few of the MFSL Sinatra vinyl titles and the sacds (I think I have all of them). I seem to remember being told that vinyl must be stored standing up. I guess if it has been drinking you could lean it against a bottle of Jack Daniels.

This thread has lots of great info but re the title is that correct there are 6 MFSL sacd and vinyl Frank titles?

It's a much underated album in the Sinatra cannon. I'm with you in that I return to it often, in fact after my favourite Frank album "Where Are You", it's probably the the one I play most.

    Ouch. Those cancellations still burn.
I suppose it's futile to speculate on whether and when circumstances might bring the stakeholders to change their mind and grant MFSL permission to move forward again with more Sinatra titles. And yet, every time this thread perks back up again, that's what I'm hoping to see...

The usual great info from Bob.

It feels good to own all of these. For the most part, they sound great.

Thank you very much Bob F. I am in luck - I have both gold cds and the 6 sacds with vocals shown in blue. Vinyl - I only have Where Are You, No One Cares and Point of No Return. Not missing too much (for the Capitol era) and as stated series was ended. I will certainly look after the releases I have. They are standing up even the sacds!

Yeah, always standing. Storing vinyl flat is awful.

    Wait a minute. I'll ask.

Well, if it's been drinking it isn't going to tell me.

I'm not convinced. Bottom edges wear out first. If it's in mylar then bottom edges of mylar wear out first.

I love Sinatra's Capitol ballad albums, but i have a hard time with his Capitol swing albums. I find the brass section in them to be too loud and harsh, and it really botters my ears (Como Fly with Me, Songs for Swingin' Lovers, etc.). Which Sinatra swing album (from any period) should i get then? I'm looking for a stereo release that mixes the brass very well without being piercing to the ears. Something swingy but not harsh. A Swingin' Affair is a little more smooth, for example, but not enough for my taste.

Swing Easy is the most gentle Capitol "swing" album. Hence, the title. ;)

But Swing Easy! is not stereo. For that matter, neither are Songs for Swingin’ Lovers! or A Swingin’ Affair! I must ask @Hatchet Jack (since this thread is about MFSL issues): Have you listened to the MFSL hybrid SACDs? You may be pleasantly surprised, in comparison to other digital releases of those two albums.

Give Come Dance With Me a shot too. If you find that one harsh, I’d probably just stop there and stick with the ballads.

Count me as another listener who has trouble with brass. I think it started with B.B. King concerts in southern California clubs in the 1970s. He always had a trumpeter or two blowing into the mic at a gazillion decibels. On the home stereo, harsh-sounding brass even at low volume takes me out of the music which is why you don't see me writing my thoughts on the Sinatra's swing albums, because I don't listen to them as often. However, I think I've made an adjustment to the MoFi editions. Some restraint has been exercised there. Like Bob F. says, try the MoFi editions.
