The addition of Ann Wedgeworth was a bone of contention between John Ritter and the show's writers, because John thought it was ridiculous that sex crazed Jack would turn away from the advances of an attractive woman, even if she was older than he was...

As far as why Jack turned her away, I'm thinking it was so he could convincingly keep up his ruse and not let Furley find out he wasn't gay after all...

Could be. I have to imagine the age difference was a factor, though, as "cougars" really weren't a thing 40 years ago. :)

Valerie Curtin, right? She ended up in the TV version of "9 to 5", IIRC.

There was real chemistry between Joyce Dewitt and John Ritter. The characters of Jack and Janet were two of the most likeable in TV history.

Jeez, I thought you were talking about Janice, not the main cast (six of the BEST sitcom characters in history). I love Three's Company, but Friends was a thousand times better show, on every level.

  10. When I was 10 I thought Janet was a cougar. That doesn't count?

My first thought was, "Who the hell is Cindy?"
Guess I didn't watch it much.
For me the show was pretty unwatchable. Lowest common denominator dumb.
    Too each their own.

And she was the best thing about it. The new showrunner bizarrely fired her in favor of bland Leah Ayres for the shortened third season, but they brought her back for the syndicated revival.

She also played Vera in “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,” the Martin Scorcese movie that spawned the sitcom “Alice.’

Agreed. It wasn’t romantic chemistry, IMO. There’s a faction of TC fans who think Janet should have been his girlfriend in the Three’s a Crowd spinoff, but I don’t think they’re right. But Jack and Janet really came off as great friends. You can imagine them still being friends years after they moved out and started their own families.

I was always a fan of Janet. I thought she was kind of the Mary Ann to Chrissy's Ginger- Chrissy was supposed to be the hot one, but I thought Janet was more attractive and both Mary Ann and Janet looked great in shorts. It might be because I have always been partial to brunettes. Agree that Janet and Jack had great platonic chemistry.

I do think Suzanne Sommers did a great job of playing the ditzy blonde, though and was very funny.

True, she was very good on the show... I just think her salary dispute soured her to a lot of people.

Janet all day. Joyce Dewitt actually had great comedic timing, this is why her and John Ritter worked so well together. The show crapped on her at the end, which is a shame.
